Kahn inquiring about Nash?

Post#1 » by southern wolf » Sat Feb 5, 2011 10:40 am

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/21 ... nteresting

Because Steve Nash isn't the type of player to seek a trade, it is highly unlikely he will be dealt before the Feb. 24th deadline.

But the Suns have received calls from the Hawks, Magic, Blazers and Mavericks about the possibility of trading for Nash, according to sources. The Wolves and Raptors have also called about Nash's availability despite both of those teams being out of the playoff picture.

Couldn't see this posted anywhere else. It's obviously a long shot to say the least, but it's worth discussing.

It's also good to know inquiring teams are interesting. Thanks for that RealGM.

I would love Nash, the way his career is going he could still be playing at an all-star level when Love retires
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

I'd think this would HAVE to be a trade centered around Flynn from our side, unless they think Dragic is the future. Maybe Wes?

Boy would i love Nash at Minnesota, could easily start for us even with Rubio, who will take a couple of years to develop anyway. I would actually see if the suns had any interest in Beasley.

I'd love for Nash to be on this team, I just don't see it being a good move since we aren't close to the playoffs at all.

First Aaron Brooks and now Nash? I know the talks probably won't go anywhere, but I'm interested in why we must trade for a point guard when we have Flynn, Rubio, and Ridnour. Of course we could always make room for him...

I'm probably the most opposed here to adding an aged veteran on this team, but in this case I could make an exception granted we don't make any other blockbuster trades (like Iguodala). We're going to lose practically all of our cap space this summer, so at least we would have one of the best expiring contracts in the NBA next year.

They can have anyone on our roster except Love, Beasley, Rubio, Johnson, our 2011 first round pick, and maybe even Darko. I'm not going to be the fan who proposes this by the way.

Toronto and Minnesota, sources say, are two lottery-bound teams that rank as frequent callers, although Nash would figure to have a fair measure of say on where he goes in any potential deal because (A) he's only got one year left on his contract after this season and could refuse to sign an extension if he doesn't like the landing spot, and (B) it's widely assumed that Phoenix won't just trade Nash anywhere after so many years of good service and the mere fact he came back to the Suns after they initially dealt him to the Mavs on draft day in 1998.

I'd love to have him on the team but I'm filing this one away in the pipe dream folder. And, to be honest, I'd rather add Iggy and/or Bogut right now.

I have the feeling Nash won't be too happy if he leaves Phoenix. If we give up Flynn + other assets, Nash may just be a rental. Down the road he's gonna want to play for a contender. I don't see this as a realistic option.

I don't know. He'll definitely help on offense and in the clutch, but what about defense? We still need a guy(s) that is a rock solid defender (A man known as Iggy).

I think if you go after Nash, you gotta make another big splash to get Iggy or Bogut. If we could get Iggy for Wes and Pek, then hope you don't have to overpay for Nash. If push came to shove I would trade a Rubio package for Nash if we could get Lopez back in the deal. Nash, Iggy, Beasley, Love, Darko with Luke, Lopez, Webster, and Tolliver is a nice lineup.

We're not getting Nash. The most involvement I can possibly see is Kahn getting in on a 3 way trade.

I dont really want Nash. If we get him we would just be mediocre, and the worst thing to be in the NBA is mediocre.

I know what you’re saying, but at this point, "give me some of that mediocre".

37 years old. With our current position I can't justify that.

Not real realistic, but theoretically:

Nash for Rubio
Iguodala for Beasley + Flynn
Bogut for Johnson + Darko
Rip for Brewer + Koufus + Ellington + Telfair

PG Nash Ridnour
SG Rip (Mem pick) MLE
SF Iguodala (MN first round pick) BAE
PF Love Tolliver
C Bogut Pek (Utah pick)

I'd want him, but I don't think it's even realistic to begin with.

I'd have to think the Suns would consult Nash about any trade, and why in the world would he even consider coming here?

Well, I guess I would do it after this year if we only give up someone like Flynn/pek and a late first or two (cant really see the Suns doing this).

I mean, next year, we actually want to be mediocre since The Clippers own our pick. Its in our best interest to be as good as we can possibly be, even if that means an 8-9 seed in the west.

If we could get him for something involving Flynn then hell yes. Nash would make us so much better, just look how he's carrying phoenix right now with no real other threats. Imagine how hed do with love, beasley, and a bunch of shooters.
