1. makes us better (and actually watchable) immediately
2. we are losing our 2012 #1 no matter what (so tanking again in '12 is not an option)
3. if there is a lock out (and Rubio stays another year) it won't hurt us
4. we either use or cap space or lose it

I would be interested because he's really good. I know in a lot of ways it doesn't make sense, but he's still better than the Iguodala types we've been discussing.

Yes no doubt he is very good. I was just thinking from the age/future perspective. He's already 37 so I wouldn't want to trade away our future PG for him particularly when he could be the perfect mentor for RR.

It's probably unrealistic for the reason Lord Baldric stated, but if Steve Nash became availabe to us I'd look to see if there are adjacent moves we could make to become competitive right now. I don't think we'd need to give up Rubio to get Nash though.

Well, it's Taylor's money, but I think this is surrealistic, Minnesota only can help Rubio to pay his buyout with 500.000 $, but can pay 13,125,000 to his mentor . NBA is crazy ...

The only reason is he will be Rubio's mentor, and obviously, Ricky would love the Nash advices, because if Nash advices Rubio one time per day, each advice could amount more than 35.000 $.

I wonder if Rubio would like Nash on the team or not. I remember back when we drafted him he didn't like that we had so many PGs on our team. Would this keep him from coming here?

Nash would help us change the culture of losing that surrounds the Timberwolves. Even if he leaves in 2-3 years when his contract is up, he will have helped us turn the corner and hopefully our young guys will be ready to take the lead and continue winning by that point.

Oh, and what better guy for Rubio to learn from than Nash.

Minnesota was one of the teams identified in last week's story -- along with Atlanta, Orlando, Portland, Toronto and Nash's old friend Dallas -- as a determined suitor for Nash.

The Wolves, sources say, have called Phoenix as much as anyone, despite that they're well aware Nash has only one year left on his contract after this season and have to presume he'd have little interest in a long-term stay in Minnesota.

That they couldn't count on having Nash for more than one season, as we've noted, is why the Wolves can't afford to build an offer for Nash around Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio. For all of his struggles with Barcelona this season, Rubio remains too prized a commodity for the Wolves to give him up for Nash and then watch Nash walk away a season later.

Have to applaud Minnesota for its ambition, though. I've likewise heard, despite all the factors listed here that make us question why the Wolves would even bother chasing Nash, they have not offered Rubio to the Suns for a different reason. In the Wolves' Nash fantasy, I'm told, they dream of constructing a multi-team deal that brings Nash to Sota as a mentor for Rubio.

At least one prominent member of the organization thinks we're going to start hearing more about Rubio, who turns 21 years old in October and has the Wolves convinced that his playmaking wizardry will play much better in the NBA than it has in the Spanish League once he's surrounded by elite athletes and operating in an environment that isn't as rigid.

"One big factor in our future is Ricky Rubio," Wolves newly minted All-Star forward Kevin Love wrote in a recent entry to his regular blog for GQ. "He's either going to come play for us and have a real impact on our team, or he's going to have a lot of [trade] value around the league. One way or another, he's a vital piece hanging out there. And for us to move 100 percent forward, something needs to happen with him soon."

I would've kill somebody to see Nash on this team. Zero chance of this happening though. This pursuit borders on complete insanity, Nash to the Wolves doesn't make any sense for him or the Suns, Kahn must be very desperate. I wonder if Phoenix GM feels really uncomfortable talking with him.
