What that political cartoon and the flawed reasoning that underlies it ignores is the cost associated with implementing most of the global warming reforms to achieve that “better world.”
Of course there needs to be some degree of regulation (since we obviously don’t want toxic waste dumped in rivers or the air quality of Chinese urban areas, Etc) but the status quo regulatory mechanism (the EPA) is perfectly sufficient.
Reducing waste around your house, replanting trees after you deforest your land and taking other simple steps like fats mention are great. However, the implementation of carbon credits and other radical proposals for political and legal reform in the name of global warming amount to little more than wealth re-distribution schemes that will only serve to significantly hamstring the US economy.
The Chevy Volt is another example – the vehicle would never exist under natural market conditions because it’s cost prohibitive to manufacture (i.e. starting sticker is over $40k) and provides an inadequate return relative to its cost (i.e. Goes only 35-40 miles per charge) Even though it makes no economic sense at all for GM to manufacture these black hole vehicles, the government perverts market forces by subsidizing GM’s manufacture of the vehicles and the sticker price of the car (i.e. a purchaser gets a $7500 rebate). All of this is of course is complements of the tax payer in the name of going green.
Historically, during the past hundreds of thousands of years, the earth has gone in and out of numerous ice ages and even more numerous fluctuations in weather patterns and global temperatures. Confusingly, most of these fluctuations predate SUVs.
You can still be a good environmental advocate without buying into irrational alarmism. Patrick Moore, the original founder of Greenpeace and John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel are both pioneers in environmental activism and awareness who staunchly oppose waste and pollution yet recognize alleged man-made global warming for the non-sense it is.

Re: Off Topic III
somewhere in the middle is a common ground that is probably where most everyone should put their focus.
no need to go nuts and start forcing corporations to go green or giving crazy bonuses to those that do. but definitely need to promote common sense among the masses in terms of doing what is best for environment today and for future generations.
one of my biggest pet peeves is the instant gratification gang that wants everything in nice neat disposable, one-time, use plastic packaging. sure, i am guilty just like the next guy of being lazy and opting for some of these easy solutions. and god knows somebody is making a killing on this stuff, but damn its just so ridiculously wasteful.

I think the vast majority of people see the radicalized SAVE THE WORLD campaigns and get so put off that they forget that every little thing helps.
Recycling, using less, carpooling, and things of that nature are small steps in a direction that helps if large numbers of people do it. Too many people think, "I can't make a difference, so what the hell!". That needs to be changed. It may not matter to the older generation, but I'm only 20. The world's consumption of oil is far above it's carrying capacity and there will come a time when we run out of the stuff--or at least hit a point to where the cost to refine it isn't worth the final product.
Just because solar power, hydrogen fuel cells, and the like are cost prohibitive now, does not mean that in the future, with adequate research and development, they'll be cheaper and more widespread. After all, there was a point where buying a car (or TV, or computer, etc) wasn't feasible for the average person. The only way those means of energy will become cheaper and readily available is if time and effort are devoted to their causes. Of course, the development wouldn't be so slow if there wasn't such a huge political aspect to the oil usage...

Would help if the average person farts less too.....can't have that though as farting is good for you. Can you imagine, if 1 million people were in one warehouse and they all farted at the same time.

1) stop and laugh at the cartoon.
2) you realize that for all of the 20th century WE were the most polluted nation in the world right? if you're going to knock the Chinese, they still have over 100 years of polluting to do before they're even close to what we did.
3) the idea that we can't afford green energy is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). it's pennies on the dollar to the billions we give israel and iraq and trillions we give to banks. and unlike those other 2 the returns are definite and will last forever for our grandkids.
4) lol @ Chevy Volt. even if global warming is overstated or a myth, you do realize that the oil is going to run out right? the **** that runs your car and heats your home (coal, gas and oil) are literally the organic material from plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. each of us has 200 carbon "slaves"... dead organisms whose life energy we are burning to support our own. the supply is finite. regardless of global warming and foil-hat moralizing we or our children need to solve dependency on carbon and stop polluting. it doesn't even have to do specifically with global warming

Re: Off Topic III
Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know that I am in the Bobcats Social Network Challenge. I am selling tickets for the Bobcats. The top ten sellers get prizes. I saw a guy from ROF doing really good. I think RealGM is better! I have a link to ticketmaster and a passcode to get discounts on tickets for any remaining home games. If interested, let me know. Don't know if it is appropriate to post link here, so I won't. Thanks.

If your only contribution to this board is gonna be patronizing other on politic issues, you should consider abstain from posting here. My two cents.

I dislike Anderson Silva so much that I have half a mind to phone Dana White and tell him that I am willing to cut weight and fight him.
And I would do it for free.
And I would do it for free.

Re: Off Topic III
Aaron Brooks walked off the court in the 4th quarter against the Grizzlies. Will serve a one game suspension, for his immature selfish behaviour.
Wow what happened to this guy, i thought he was a class act, more classless than anything. This is worse than Jack's techs.
I wonder if it would appear on the play by play record:
Time Houston
6:45 Aaron Brooks walks off court
6:35 Rick Adelman looks dumbfounded
6:00 Apparently Brooks left to "take a leak"

I'd still trade for Aaron Brooks. I wouldn't give up DJ now but I'd gladly ship Crash out for him and some cap relief.
My girl Christina Aguilera **** up the national anthem tonight. SMFH.
