As much as I love Fields I think we need more of a playmaker/passer/defender/shooter at SG if/when Melo arrives to help out. Have Gallo and Fields solidify our bench. Prob wont happen but Im not 100% on Fields as a long time SG. I still look at him as a SF in the Matt Barnes mold.

If Gallo and Fields iis on the bench, who would start?

Stop making excuses for a player who needs to step it up, big time, if he comes to New York. He has go to back to being the player he was when he was shooting 48% from the field. If he doesn't, he'll be booed and wish that he were back in the safe confines of Denver - and he'll deserve it.

The onus is on him to perform at a level approximating Lebron's - not on fans to buy into your groupie mindset.

What's the excuse? I said he went through all of that, then performed in the playoffs, and people had him in the conversation. What excuse is necessary? I told you about that season. However you feel about the season is irrelevant being that his playoff performance is what elevated him into elite status. I even showed you a topic that had him in the argument for the top 5. Have it your way. I'm done with this discussion.

Two maximum salary midrange, 6'9" ish forwards?

Post#664 » by Hitman33 » Sun Feb 6, 2011 1:18 pm

How would this be a good idea?

I just don't get it.

I love STAT, but lets face it, he and Melo are ball stoppers,

they are not lock down defenders by any means

&

they (would) eat up 90% of your cap in the upcoming 'hard cap world.'

And a 'hard cap world' is DEFINITELY coming.

I just don't understand how paying two 6'9"ish, ball stopping, midrange shooting, poor defending forwards,

maximum salaries

in a 'hard cap world'

is a good idea.

Please, if this deal goes through like Broussard is reporting (skeptical on the players involved) it's a RAPING...a STEAL.

The whole purpose of the D'Antoni offense is to get the most consistent scorers in the league to blow the team out by the half so they can rest the starters. You need Three consistent cogs in that offense to make it work. By adding Melo you have the second guaranteed cog.

Why is consistent scoring so important? The more you score, the less you have to rebound...the less worries making stops to make up the difference.

Melo SPREADS the defense wider than Trina Michaels Ass cheeks. EVERY ONE will be better because of it. You won't hear any more talk about Gallo inconsistencies, Felton getting burned out, or Amare forced to commit bad fouls.

This immediately puts the Knicks top THREE. Sorry Chicago, I just don't buy you with Melo...Orlando has NO HEART...and Atlanta has no court vision.

Well, they are also arguably two of the 10 best players in the NBA, are proven playoff performers, clutch and in the prime of their careers. The NBA is a stars league, like it or not...
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

How many stars do the Spurs have? How many stars did the Pistons have?

You win with a great TEAM.

What amazes me most about the Carmelo discussion on this board is he has 7 years of work to show you what to expect from him. This year is a down year and its no excuse. Everyone knows he isn't giving 100%. If his effort is the excuse then so be it, but everyone knows that. Still, we have 7 years of work to base Carmelo on and people are using this season to try and dissect his game. If you don't like what Carmelo brings to the table now, then you won't like him in the future, no matter what system he's in. He is who he is. He can get a little better or whatever, but he is who he is.

But he's paid 100% of his salary, by a team that wants to extend him at crazy money. So what does that say about him? Or, would he instead be furious at you for suggesting that he's dogging it - and not really a professional?

Everyone knows he isn't giving 100%....lets sign him to max money.

No wonder Isiah was so popular on these boards back in the day.

Melo is not a good man defender. Dont bring up "Opponent PER" either, aka the stat that says Nash is the best defensive PG in the NBA ha.

Otherwise I agree with you JDD. We know who Melo is though. Wed be paying him over 20 mill a year in the future so its not crazy to expect more out of him/think hes not worth it however.

At this point in his career Melo isnt getting much better. Lets face it. His passing isnt going to all of the sudden be LeBron/Kobe. The most realistic thing he can improve is his 3 pt shooting. Other than that I think Melo is who he is, a very talented scorer/good rebounder and mediocre everywhere else. All I ask is to give effort on defense and make the pass when its there. If he does that Ill be good.

Gallo would surely be a scoring punch off the bench and help our second unit? I can see us swinging a deal for Gallo and Buike or something after the Melo deal goes through

I'd experiment with Melo at SG.....SOMETIMES
but lets wait if the deal gets done

We can dangle Felton and Gallo for either CP3, Deron Williams or D. Howard in 2012.

Deron yes , cp3 NO
