The future seems to be filled with more 48-52 win seasons in which we are just better than good, but have no real chance at doing anything truly special. I like winning, I appreciate having a quality team, but at some point in time you just want to see your team take some chances that could lead to championship caliber play. Crazy things happen (look at the unexpected developments this year in San Antonio and Dallas for two quick examples) from time to time, but I can't remember a time when I felt like this team had no direction whatsoever. The Al Jefferson acquisition seems like a massive we-should-have-seen-it-coming mistake. Millsap is being asked to do too much, and no one can light a fire under Kirilenko to get his ass to hit the boards. Deron Williams is the only thing keeping me sane right now, and the fear of losing him if this keeps up too much longer is undermining even that.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic because I got a bit of a beer buzz going, but I feel pretty good about this team's future.

At this point in the season we are what we are...which is a borderline playoff team. I don't really have any expectations for this year, but I'm reasonably optimistic for next year and beyond. I think a lot of people underestimated how difficult of a transition it would be when over half your team consists of new pieces (myself included). Still, I think we added a number of keepers. Both rookies are showing a ton of promise and are already demanding minutes. A full year and offseason (weight room!) and they should be ready to be full time contributors. Jefferson has looked much better in this last stretch of games as well; the additional experience should bode well for him too.

Worse comes to worse, we don't improve dramatically and we lose Deron in the offseason. And to be honest if that's the case, then I'm okay with that too. We'll have some good young talent and plenty of cap space, as Jefferson would be the only large contract (after that first year Millsap's contract became quite a steal). This franchise has shown they know how to rebuild quickly, and I have faith they would be able to do it again.
