Sloan Has Contract Extension

Apparently, he's had an extension for a while.

“I’ve already signed a contract for next year,” he said after shootaround at Arco Arena in preparation for tonight’s game against the Kings. “That’s been since, maybe, around the first of the year. I don’t remember what the date was on it. I never pay any attention to it. They offered it to me and I signed it.”

“I didn’t need an announcement,” Sloan said. “Hell, it’s not a big deal to me. And I don’t know what it [an announcement] does. Either one of us can go the opposite direction. I’ve been around long enough and they’ve been around long enough to know if they want to get rid of me, that’s all they have to do.”

The real year to watch for will be for the 12/13 season, when Williams has a player option and Okur expires.

This is the standard year-to-year extension that they give him every year. Basically he can stay around as long as he wants until he is ready to retire. Like Sloan said, its no big deal since they have been doing it this way for the past several years.

Maybe he should do "the decision" where he will reveal his decision by donning a Jazz cap or a John Deere cap and driving a tractor around his farm. Then the Jazz would make LeBron's "list". :lol:

Really glad to have him back.

Should be an interesting season next year to say the least. If the team is going south and Deron puts pressure on the front office to boot Sloan out it could spell the end of the Sloan era. I doubt it will come to that but you never know.

Of course you're glad to have sloan back for another year +. Let's keep the same ole same ole product year after year. This is 2011 you know, not 1998. Wow! Mediocraty still reigns supreme in ZION!!

Two decades with one losing season and plenty of playoff runs is not average.

How about winning the west! Never close since 1998. who has been the coach since then without a Stockten or Malone? I'd say the last 13 years have been acceptable by most utah fans. Do something to make it unexspectable!!

Sloan will stay until he gets the wins record. After that he will seriously consider leaving. He needs two more seasons after this one to get it. So figure he'll stay until he's 72.

Tammy, the new wife, doesn't want to live in McLeansboro, Illinois, and his step son is in high school, so they won't consider moving until he graduates. What's he going to do, work on tractors all day? He might as well stay for the wins record.

I find it interesting that there was no press release made for this extension. Buyer's remorse maybe? I've tried to lay off Sloan in recent years, but this season as been a disaster. The team is actually getting worse with each passing month and his star player has taking to publicly questioning his coaching.

I wonder if they did this deal over Christmas, ans then the team fell apart and they decided not to say anything about it, in case Sloan decided to walk away or (heaven forbid) the Jazz decided to replace him.

We have had recent playoff success. You need to look over the history again.

In '07, we upset Houston in the first round, got lucky to get GS in the second round (even though plenty of people were high on them and thought they would beat us), and then hit a wall against SA.

In '08, we upset Houston again in the first round, and then lost to the Lakers in the second round (many of those games were very, very close).

In '09, we got beat by LA in the first round (again, it was closer than the numbers say).

In '10, we upset the Nuggets in the first round, and then got beat by LA again.

This shows a record of overachieving in the playoffs, and then being beat by superior teams (e.g., SA and LAL). It says we haven't been title contenders, but I have no idea how you get playoff failure out of that. To get to the next level, we will need bigs that can matchup against the front court of real title contenders. We need to play with the likes of Gasol, Bynum, Odom; Garnett, Perkins; Duncan; Howard. I mean, a coaching change wouldn't have made Boozer any taller. Jefferson and Millsap could be a part of a contending front court, but they're going to need an anchor next to them to make it happen. That's what it is going to take.

I stand corrected- finishing in the bottom half of the playoff teams each year really isn't regular season success either. Sloan's overall losing record in the playoffs speaks for itself.

this team will be in a world of hurt, Slone got every drop of of this team. its just the front court and shooting gurad spot needed an up grade thats all. This team will see a first round exit without him to lead them.
