Kendrick Perkins

Post#1 » by KF10 » Mon Feb 7, 2011 10:00 pm

Perkins recently rejected an extension of $30M for 4 years from the Celtics. Which is expected because Perkins is a legitimate big man that can anchor a defense. He is probably within the top 3 or so in terms of protecting the basket. He is an enforcer & all grit. Looking at the previous contract offers for big men, it would not be all surprising to see Perkins signing a HUGE contract this summer.

He is 26, which is still pretty young and still considered in his prime. I think he would fit very well with the Kings. Imagine a Cousins & Perkins frontcourt!

What do you guys think?

I like what I know about Perkins so far, however I don't know that Sacramento would be able to lure him over.

Oh god, if he goes to the Heat...

I'd LOVE him here though, he's Dally but better and without the idea that he's a scorer.

^^Perkins is a great option especially if we have 3pt shooters at both PG and SF. Otherwise I think we keep cousins at the C spot and stay with a floor spreading type PF.

I don't think the Heat can offer anything more than the MLE, and Perkins already turned down a bigger contract with the Celtics. The only way he goes to the Heat is if he wants to go to the Heat.

As far as the Kings, I like Perkins a lot and I wanted him here before we drafted Cousins. Now that we have Cousins though, I'm pretty much set on him being our starting C. I still have my doubts if Cousins can play PF.

What Wolfy said....

But I don't think he'll be a good fit, nor do I think he and Cousins can play all that well together. What this team needs to focus on this offseason as a step in the right direction is getting much more athletic, but still gainning that rugged gritty defensive identity in the same process.

Whiteside should be that guy! However, it'll all depend IF Cousins can shift to the four though and play/defend that position full time. Then and only then I'd be interested in bringing in someone like Perks.

Perks/Whiteside
Cousins/JT/Jackson

Thats a pretty good front court though

No thanks to 10+ million a year on a 10 and 7 role playing C, even if his forte is defense. I don't think he and Cousins would be very complimentary athletically or offensively.

Yeah, I've actually been really liking Cousins' defense as a C. He's bodied up guys like Bynum, Shaq, Wiltbilla, etc. that used to just cream this team in the post even on a bad night. His size and strength is a major plus. Find a good weak side help defender that can cover PF's and we're set. Might have that in Dalembert, would rather more offense, but they've looked good together for sure.

The Heat won't be able to get him, it's well established now that he feels he worth much more than the MLE.

The going-rate for a decent big man is probably about $8-9M per year. Getting Perkins close to that amount would be a bargain.

Perkins isn't that bad of an athlete imo. If he is able to run the floor and stay on the court 30+ minutes, that's good enough for me. I think adding a guy like Perkins, that's known as an enforcer & no nonsense type of player, would prove to be similar effect like adding Artest several years ago. I think Perkins' dedication of defense will rub onto the young guys just like Artest did with our players.

Perkins rotations on defense is phenomenal. I think guys like Cousins & Thompson will learn a lot from Perkins about this aspect of the game.

I mean, adding a guy like Perkins will change the culture of this team both defensively & mentally.

Perkins would be a great fit and we have money to spend... question is how do we get him to commit?

No thankyou he would get grossly overpaid & likely under perform .
It is so easy for guys like PERKINS & RONDO to look great on a star studded team .
Imo RONDO is better than Perkins & I am not implying that Perkins sucks or anything but I feel he is overrated quit a bit guys like K.G , R.A. & PIERCE can make the worst of players look good thats what truly great players do .
He is 26 I like that in terms of having youngblood vets but I would not want to grossly overpay a guy to come here that will under perform IMO & then when he wants out of SAC or the KINGS realize they made a mistake & his contract is so bad then we wont be able to move him .

Then we will really be screwed ...

All this said I dont think he would come here at all unless he is playing on another team against us .

WAS the going rate. With the Kings bigs right now, I would say less for this team. That would be $$$ much better spent elsewhere because while Perkins could be a huge impact player as that last piece type, we are far from that. The C's aren't going to let him go, they'll overpay.

All I gotta say is that if we enter next season with a lineup of Evans/Mayo/Casspi/Cousins/Perkins we will be above .500.

And I'm saying if we had to choose between Perkins and Mayo, Mayo (and more importantly Mayo's position) is more important to the success of this team than Perkins' is.
