Court vision and decision making are two different beasts.
Rondo does not make the kind of plays that guys like Nash, CP3 and Deron Williams. His play is more like an athletic Tony Parker when Tony was in his prime. He should not, nor ever be spoken about in the same breath in terms of pure "court vision" with those other 3, however, his decision making improves every year and I'm impressed by that.
Basically, his athleticism allows him to get to the basket and make the right pass. This is because Boston's offense is incredibly structured and has nothing to do with Rondo's court vision. He does not create plays out of thin air like the other 3 pg's i mentioned nor make the jaw dropping, although reckless pass those guys make. When Rondo penetrates, every player on the court has a specific place to be and depending on there he is on the court, he moves the ball to the open man depending on how the defense reacts to him. He luckily has a lot of guys on his team that can make the open shot with consistancy. He "executes" better than most point guards in the league which shows how strong he's getting in his decision making, but that does not mean he has amazing court vision.
Assist totals can also be a very flawed stat when talking about court vision too. The could be the benefit of a PG executing a play correctly and luckily have guys who will make the open shots. Depending on the players around you as well as the kind of offensive system you're in (triangle offense PG's historically don't have wild assist games), one can view the assist category in an incorrect light.
If we remember, Rondo basically came into this league as a pure athlete. Find video's from draft night. He was a PG project that just had athleticism and defense. That is why, as much as I use the excuse "he's also playing with 3 Hall of Famers," I still have to commend the guy for putting in the work to become a top 5-6 pg in this league. While you can teach decision making over time, the learning curve for pure court vision is just so much longer. In most cases, you either have it or you don't. You can improve a little I would say, but I see it more as you are becoming a product of your system more so than having improved your "vision." Your decision making gets better because you know the system and know your teammates responsbilities on a given play.
I'm fine with you disagreeing, I'm just trying to explain my side of my review of Rajon Rondo. I feel he runs that offense very efficiently, however, I personally do not see his court vision being anything special.

^^^I agree completely. Rondo is a product of his system. He can't break down a defense with his dribbling like Nash, D-Will, Rose, CP3, and others can. Everyone knows he can't shoot. But he can make a layup and is quick. Therefore, when he penetrates the defense collapses and leaving Pierce and Allen to stop him. In the same way that Boston tried to stop everyone else on the Lakers and let Kobe go off, the Lakers actually did that to Rondo last year. Kobe backs off of him cause he can't shoot and serves as a help defender on everyone else. If Rondo could actually shoot the ball, Boston would've won last year.
Rondo will never prefer to shoot over passing to his teammates cuz his teammates shoot better than him. Rondo will always want to pass the ball and it's great for him when the defense collapses on him. CP3, D-Will, and Nash will their teams to win by shooting, passing, and dribble penetration. Unless Rondo gets much better at those things, he won't "win" a game for his team. He can only make the pass or get that key steal. Put Nash on Boston, that's a championship. Put Rondo on Phoenix, that's the lottery. It's that simple.

I don't have a problem with Rondo's court vision (he does benefit from having teammates who will actually move without the ball but you can' really fault him for that) but his decision making could stand to improve...
Similarly while he's a great help defender I personally think Rondo is a vastly overrated man-to-man defender and is at times a detriment to his team because of his reluctance to shoot.

Well if Brook Lopez remains on this team don't expect anything close to a championship from this team during his tenure. Can't play defense, can't rebound, can't pass out of the double team from your go to player = failure.

If we build a contending team Lopez won't be our go to guy. At best he'd be the 2nd option, at worst 3rd.

I am one of the few people actually believe that BLopez is a franchise player. He is 22 and he will get back to 8-10 boards a game next season and put up 20 to 25.

I think a lot of people believe Brook can still be a cornerstone of a franchise. I think people were setting too high expectations though believing he will be THE FACE of the franchise. If you look at the champions over the last decade or so, you need a few faces, not one. Brook has the potential still to be one of those faces most definitely. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we're turning into Knicks fans with our snap judgments (not at the pace of Netsdaily though...those posters are flat out (Please Use More Appropriate Word)). It's starting to make me sick though to tell you the truth.
If we were winning, we wouldn't be harassing Brook as much though. I'm 100% positive though that if we had any consistancy from the SG and SF position (which everyone should be complaining about but they like to just use Brook as the scapegoat) Brook's numbers would improve. We're incredibly easy to game plan against right now. I'm honestly amazed, because of that fact, Brook can even put up the stats he does. If everyone stops acting like Knicks fans for a second and dissects certain issues, Brook is playing well in spite of these problems lol. But we're Knick fans now. Taking the time and effort to do that kind of logical thinking isn't in our genetic makeup anymore.

Not everyone is calling Brook a bust/overrated/eddy curry 2.0.... There are a few of us that know what he's capable of. Just sayin'.
