I'd say he is definitely in the top 10. In no real order, here are 10 of the top guys in the league (add in CP3 when 100% healthy). Is there anyone not on this list who should be in here instead of Melo?

As long as we keep Mozgov, I can accept other casualties.

Looking at personal numbers, Carmelo is not elite. BUT as people have said -- Melo has been a winner. Melo has been THAT good and never had an Amare next to him. Melo went onto a lotto team and along with a healthy Camby made the Nuggets a good playoff team in 1 year, you gotta see him as elite.

Yup, i's likely to get done with Dolan taking an assertive position. It's also likely that Dolan will have everyone not named Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton shipped off to make it happen.

I'm sure some of you just saw Broussard on Sportscenter with a "developing story" that the Lakers and Nuggets are having preliminary discussions centered around Bynum for Melo. Now he says Melo would be amenable to such a thing, that the Nuggets want more from the Knicks...I just urge people not to get too nuts over this...this is Lebron all over again. He was 75% sure he was going to the Knicks last night, now he has no clue what the Nuggets want to do. Reporters being fed info and we can't buy into most of it and just have to be patient.

I love how GM's would rather hand the Lakers championships than help out the Knicks.

Dolan isn't the GM and likely isn't offering our players.

However, as owner, he probably told Kroenke that he'll take back Harrington, Balkman, and whatever other financial savings he could provide under the CBA, undermining Walsh.

I find it hard to believe that the Nuggets would be interested in Bynum and his near-max contract. He's not someone you build around.

If these reports are true, I'd take it as nothing more as Denver trying to exact some leverage against the Knicks by bringing in a 3rd party.

You where not exactly going out a limb there . We all thought the Lakers as a team what he would goto and a team who may have the assets. It is very logical

Melo is absolutely an elite player, despite that fact that he's always been a volume shooter and is fairly mediocre (at least for tje past couple of seaons) from 3.

With your team down by 1 with 10 seconds left in the game, name 10 guys tat you'd rather have on your team than melo. If the answer is "I can't", he's elite, because he is able to do what the essence/core of the game is about- score the ball- as well in the clutch as almost anyone in the league.

I'll add fule to the fire and say that Melo becomes even better in MD's system, where he'll get more open looks per game. He'd also being playing with another elite scorer. I pity the poor coach who is trying to figure out how to defend us in the last seconds of a game when he has Melo and Amar'e to worry about.
All in all he's just another prick with no wall

Rose? Pau? Not necessarily instead of... but I now put them in that class of players.

I prefer the tier system myself where

LBJ
Kobe

Are tier 1

Dwight
Wade
Dirk
Durant*

Are tier 1A

And the rest of the guys are tier 2. I find it hard to rank when each gives a skillset that could be more valuable to one team than another.

*Durant could easily move to tier 1 after a great playoffs.

I don't really think L.A. necessarily has more assets than us. We've heard Bynum possibly going to here, there, everywhere straight up for so and so. Remember how so many reported Bynum for Bosh straight up during last season, please. The guy is 23 and has shown he simply can't stay on the court. For all of his star potential everyone thinks he has, he sure hasn't shown anything to warrant that. Also, he has 15 million coming to him next season and then will expect to get paid the year after. I can't see Denver taking on that contract for next season with the strong chance he walks after next year. Sure, they have Nene and he could walk next year, but they are going to get an injury prone 23 year old straight up for Melo? I don't buy it, neither should you.

i disagree.

sounds like they want fields, moz or gallo in this deal.

i dont see why they would want bynum. They would need a third team.

How can they turn around and tell the lakers: "oh, yeah! we want bynum we dont care about the luxury tax!"

REMEMber guys. They want to get under the tax badly. Bynum inhibits their ability to deal melo for bynum straight up because of his contract size. And obviously, the lakers cannot absorb melo freely because they are over the cap themselves. The beauty of the NY-MINN connection is that both NY and MINN can absorb contracts without taking 100% equal value (contract wise) back.

It's why a third team always needed to be involved. DEN doesnt want to swap contracts 1:1. If they did so, they'd still be over the luxury tax.
