lol at Denver trying to create leverage here.
I'm not worried about the LAL talk one bit. They want Bynum with that contract and his health issues? Doubt it. They have the chance to get under the cap and sign a real player if they dump melo for a cheap asset, ie Randolph, and some cap space.
Trading for Bynum would almost be like signing him to that contract as a FA, as they would be trading cap space for that contract.
What team in their right mind would give Bynum 15 mill this offseason?

Re: Is Carmelo an elite player in this league?
It depends on ones view of what an elite player is ? He's definitely not a franchise player...
Even though their games are very different, Melo reminds me in today's game what a player like Glen Rice used to be in the NBA about 15 years or so ago... Great scorer, limited all around capabilities and not really a good defensive player... But he's going to get you 25-35 a night on a certain amount of shots, will be an all star, potentially can be in the MVP discussion every year and gets his team to the playoffs..
Obviously he's a great get for the Knicks if they can land him, but I do believe he is a notch below the elite level player...

This is Denver toying with Dolan. They know he's weak and will let his emotions get the best of him. Donnie meanwhile is laughing at this and I'm sure trying to convince Dolan to take a chill pill. If the Nuggets flip Melo for Bynum and pretty much nothing else (since the Lakers have nothing else to offer), it is out of sheer desperation and spite. Nugs should take Chandler and a butt load of cash savings and call it a day. At this point, like many others, I'd much rather take back Harrington than give up any of Fields, Gallo or Moz. Keeping those three while adding Melo would be amazing.

Your boy Broussard says that Denver wants at least two of Gallinari, Chandler, and Fields.

It would be just another slap in the face (in a long list of slaps to the face) to us if Denver deals with the Lakers out of spite.

There is a way for Den to save some luxury tax money if LAL are willing to pay.
1) Carmelo for Bynum deal, no other players involved.
- saves DEN 3,45mil because Carmelo salary is higher.
2) LAL 5,47 mil trade exception for Anderson 4,53 mil salary
- Saves DEN 4,53 mil
So they would save 7,98 mil in luxury tax. Still they would be 5+ mil short of being under the tax.
BUT are LAL willing to pay 8 mio more in tax for this trade to happen and 2,4 mil in salaries(30% remaining).

If Denver takes Bynum for Melo that would be incredibly funny to me. Almost as funny as NJ locking itself in medicrity with that proposed and canceled trade.
LA with Kobe and Melo combining for 55 shots on dismal shooting and fighting over clutch situations would be hilarious.
And Denver being stuck with Bynum who can't run up and down the the court three times without crippling something in his legs ----> Comedy Gold.
