WHY did mitch go public?

Post#1 » by Penberthy » Fri Feb 4, 2011 3:23 pm

There has been a lot of speculation about why Mitch went public this time, as it is definitely out of his character. he usually holds his cards very close to his chest and no one knows what he will do until after it is done (ie pau trade and artest signing).

Many people have said that he and magic and west are just saying this to motivate the team, I disagree.

I actually think the reason he put it out there was to let the other superstars know that we are in the market. And if they are unhappy with their current team, or were planning on not resigning with their current team, or were planning on forcing a trade, that the LAKERS wanted them.

Considering the rumblings about CP3 early in the season, Melo's ongoing drama, and the recent rumor about dwight, I think Mitch is specifically targeting those three, hoping to spark the idea amongst one of them to force a trade to the Lakers.

i read somewhere in the LA times website that Mitch was quoted as saying he didn't, that it wasn't his style. too lazy to go find it and post it though.

I would say it is a warning to the players. step up or something could happen. Like playing in a cold weather city for a crappy team vs. Sunny SoCal and winning and all the perks...

I've been on Melo "bandwagon" for a while now.
(granted right pieces need to be coming back/ can't give up way too much.)
but I think for our quest for 4th straight final and three-peat we can't stand pat.

I'm really not sure how Melo will help. His action zone is basically the same as Kobe. He's a player that mainly operates from the post and has a rather streaky perimeter shot. We will obviously get creative offensively but neither Melo nor Kobe will be fully utilized in this scenario.

i really think we need another player to create shoots for other people, cuz we sure as hell dont run the offense most of the time,or they double bynum and you all know how that goes
How's this for an almost unbelievable Laker trivia: The Lakers will miss the playoffs this year for the 3rd time since 1976.

I'm looking for 3 years from now over this year in the Melo trade.

Or even next year when we are reduced to using the triangle 5% of the time.

I say more motivation angle then legit threat.....we've seen over the years that when Laker mgmt make a trade, no one reported before it actually happened, Pau was obvious but even small time trades with the likes of Ariza then Vlade for brown/ammo were all done without much hoopla or rumours.

I'd rather wait it out, try to get OJ Mayo (I think he has massive potential, smoothest shot I've seen in awhile) and then try to get Dwight in 2012. We'll be older but have a good core to build around.

Imagine a lineup of.

Mayo
Bryant
Artest
Gasol
Howard

just nasty. Our front court would be insane.

Arguably the best scorer in the NBA will not help? I'm sorrry to break it to you, but kobe just is not what he used to be. He isn't. As far as too similar of styles, I think that is inaccurate. Kobe is very ball dominant, while melo is a much better off the ball scorer. I think both of their play and efficiency will improve. Also, finally having a legitimate scoring option that he trusts will allow Kobe to comfortably transition to the next phase of his career as facilitator. Did you see the chemistry between Kobe and Melo in the Olympics? I don't think I've ever seen Kobe play with that much chemistry or trust with anyone EVER.

I would argue that Lebron and Wade's games are much more redundant and somehow they manage to score 25+ a piece.

FYI Melo also averages more rebounds than bynum, think about that for a second.
