Darko was a unanimous top 3 pick going into that draft. Seriously. LeBron was a unanimous #1, and then people were arguing Carmelo vs. Darko for 2 and 3. Most pundits were advocating Darko for Detroit at #2 and Tayshaun was holding down SF well there, and was still young enough to have potential to continue to grow (he essentially topped out around that point), but weren't sure of Sheed's status at that point, as he was a headcase. However, I think the same pundits would've been fine with Carmelo at that pick as well. They were interchangeable at the time.

After that was the big drop off where Bosh and Hinrich were considered the next big guys. Wade jumped a bit at the end.

Like I said tho, I didn't have Internet so I didn't really know anything about him. That might be the reason why me and most of my friends thought it was a bad pick. We was watching Wade and Carmelo during the tourney at school. They let a lot of us do that or go to the gym and play basketball or football, because it was a way to keep us out of trouble. Back then we thought players like juan Dixon, Lonny Baxter, or Chris Duhon were gonna be superstars because we were kids who saw some players do good in college. It's a lot different now that I can see these players play more. I didn't know anything about Yao Ming when he was drafted. At the time I would have picked Jason Williams out of Duke number one, because I saw him play more. Like I said I was a kid.

Yeah, iirc, Miami were really upset that Bosh went as they really wanted him ahead of Wade. Drafts are funny sometimes.

Evan Turner with the near triple-double tonight 8/8/7. More impressive though was his fg%, zero fouls and 1 turnover in 32 minutes.

Yeah it was clear Detroit should've drafted Melo' when they had the chance, he was an outgoing freshman fresh off dominating the NCAA. Their failure to draft him was just as bad as Portland's second catastrophic draft blunder ( Oden over Durant). Regardless, Detroit would've won multiple titles this decade if they would've added Melo' to their already elite roster. All because they had Prince.

It's similar to Memphis' situation with Conley, because they drafted him the previous season, they opted for OJ Mayo over Russell Westbrook the following draft. Instead of having an absolutely phenomenal player, they have two marginal guards, with no trade value. I never bought into the Conley hype, and Mayo is a 6'4" sg that still can't shoot.

I am with you Indy2TW on Jay over Yao, hell I wanted to sign him when he contemplated a return. He would've had a great career imo.

I'm glad Bird goes with BPA. It gives us more flexibility in the long run in both talent and assets so we can get pieces to fit our team.
