Re: What Super Bowl team do you like more?
I voted for this year, because the question asked what team do you like more instead of what Super Bowl victory meant more/was bigger. I would say the guys on the team this year and what they overcame make it the team I like way more. That '96 team didn't just punch through the glass ceiling finally after the Cowboys losses in the postseason and the all-stars who ran each off-season to the Niners, they knocked the door down and pillaged the entire NFL with a blitz from the opening snap that year. The team was slowed down by serious injuries right in the middle which cost them 3 games until they got straightened out. The back to back losses in KC and Dallas were torturous mentally, for those who were too young to know the Chiefs were not the "Chefs" you know today and were a hell of a team.

Re: What Super Bowl team do you like more?
Yeah, the huge part of '96-'97 was Brooks/Chmura/Freeman going down. I was corrected that Brooks went down in week 8, I believe vs. San Fran. Chmura I believe was lost in that KC game and Freeman went down vs. TB.
One of the more memorable games was Beebe carrying us in that San Fran game, namely the play where the 49ers thought he was down by contact and he got up and ran it in. The only thing that reminded me of this year was when we beat Detroit with Terry effing Mickens being our key WR. Winning with a bunch of no-namers.
I need to dust off the old '96 VHS, but my favorite parts of that thing were the slow motion and dramatic music of Howard taking one all the way back vs. San Fran in the playoffs and then on the next return bringing it back to like the 3 yard line...and Kevin Greene stretching before the NFCC game talking about it not being any better than the Frozen Tundra at Lambeau Field.
For only being 10, I remember where I was and what I was doing for the majority of those games.
One other thing that people who don't have very clear memories of those seasons may not fully appreciate was the backing voice of Irwin/McGee. Larivee is pretty damn good, McCarren sucks...but wow, outside of Uecker, that Irwin/McGee tandem was at the top of my list for hometown guys.

Irwin/McGee for the **** win. Every pass play, they would both scream, "oh he's wide open!!!" And if it was a touchdown, they would just run around and yell. They were just 2 fans watching the game. I miss them. Don't like Wayne, sorry.

Also, I miss our 2nd sleeve stripe, and I feel the lettering on the back of the jerseys was cooler. Spaced closer and thinner. Could just be me seeing things.

I voted for this year as well, and even go further by saying I'll take this years team over any of the other 3 Packer SB teams. I was only 7 for the first one, I just remember my Dad and his buddies making a big fuss over a game on TV. The next year is a bit clearer, a lot of that had to do with some Lombardi dude most likely coaching his last game with the Pack.
That team was done after however, and it's no surprise that Phil Bengston went thru a carton of heaters every Sunday.
Wolf's '96 team was dominate in every way. Those regular season losses didn't faze me a bit. That win was soooo sweet after decades of crap. And it did start with the Majik/Infante year. Never getting by Dallas, SF, etc. Gabe Wilkins doing the Raji. Good times were here again after that win in New Orleans.
Why this year's team?
Totally Unexpected (see post-Lions week)
Playoff Road Warriors
Beating The Bears to get there
Great Performances by a Cast of Thousands (see IR list)
Second Youngest Team in the League
Bonus: Second- Place schedule
With Grant, Finley ...... all back next year, it will take even a bigger cancer than a certain Ex- QB whose name shall not be spoken in the Hall of Kings to screw this up....
And to the owners of the Packer Bandwagon - Better beef-up the suspension on that thing.

Re: What Super Bowl team do you like more?
I was only 8 when the Packers won in 1996/97. I didn't understand how hard it was to get there and win it.
In fact, it was the 1st full season I even watched football, so I just thought they'd be good forever. And hell, they went to the SB the following year, too, so I really believed theyd be good forever. (FWIW, I think the first game I watched was the 1995/96 NFCCG, GB @ DAL)
From what I remember from the 1996 season, we were supposed to kick everyone's ass and we did. If you ever had a prior commitment to tend to and were going to miss the game, no matter, they were gonna kick whosever ass they were playing anyways.
I also remember when our teacher told us she had tickets to the Packers/Bears Monday nighter in GB in 1997. The whole class gasped. Just totally shell shocked she got her hands on tickets.
I don't remember much from 1996, I don't have a very good memory. My parents are from England, so although they watched the games with me, they didn't understand the gravity of it back then. (They do now, they love it and are fairly knowledgeable too). I remember specific plays, not specific games. I remember Desmond's returns in the mud bowl, Favre's underhand flip to a WR @ Seattle, Favre's INT to Steve Atwater vs Den. Random plays. Also, I wasn't allowed to stay up for the SNF or MNF games (
) so my parents would tell me what happened the next morning. I remember being devastated/shocked the Cowboys beat us without even scoring a TD (Boniol with 7 FGs for the win) and beating the Rams on SNF in STL with help from a Doug Evans pick 6 on Tony Banks.
As far as which one is sweeter? No idea. The 1996 team reminds me of when I was a kid, a simpler time, so that will always be very, very special. I really feel like we kinda stole this one, which is perhaps why isn't not sinking in. Sometimes I have to ask mylsef, "we won the SUPER BOWL?" It just seems strange.
Its gratifying though. I feel like we stole it. This reminds me of when the Pats won in 2001, or when we chocked against Dallas in 1995. Except this time, with odds against us (3 road games, injuries, playing an experienced team in the SB), we fought through. It just sort of happened. Its kind of a blur.
Maybe none of this makes sense, IDK. I'm just sort of writing what I think.
We're gonna trounce teams next year, though. I think that will have a bit more of a 1996 feel to it.

Also, I remember everyone wanting to play Dallas in the NFCCG instead of Carolina. I'm sure we would have beaten them, too, but its cool to speculate what would have happend.

I think if Favre doesn't do what he did, 96 would've meant more. But, he did, so this win really felt cleansing.

Re: What Super Bowl team do you like more?
Is it true after the 1996 season a lot of players ran to other teams to cash in and the 1997 team was lucky to get back?
