Brewer...staying or going?
Over the last week, Brewer has been rumoured in the Melo deal, and/or on the cards to be traded by the 24th...one week its reported the Wolves have "little interest in dealing him", the next they are "motivated in dealing him". How much of what we read is legit? Is it safe to say he will be gone sooner rather than later?
I would like to think he remains here this season and possibly longer, however I dont think that will be the case. I feel he has done a decent job filling in as the starting SG, over the past 14 games his numbers have been:
26 mpg, 44% FG, 33% 3PT, 70% FT, 2.6 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.64 spg, 10.1 ppg.
I could see him being a welcome addition to a few teams, just depends on what pieces they have to offer the Wolves. With his father being ill, and being invloved in trade rumors, hes still giving 100% effort in times of uncertainty. No player likes to hear their name in constant trade rumors, but I think that Brewer has done an admiral job lately.

Re: Brewer...staying or going?
I could be wrong, but the way I read the two stories over the past couple days were different. In terms of the Melo three-way deal, I think the wolves are not interested in including Brewer because they are simply helping the Knicks without getting as much as they want in return. BUT, the other story that said we are motivated to move him I think is likely true, just not for undervalue.
I agree, I think that Brewer has shown amazing energy this season, but I just don't think that he is in our long term future. Is Brewer really worth 5 million next year when we have a Wes, Webster, Ellington, Beas all needing wing minutes, not to mention three potential first round picks.
I really do like what Brewer brings energy wise, but I think if we can get something for him before the deadline, we will.

I guess I wouldn't mind either way. I'm not a huge brewer fan, so I'd at least poke around and see what he is worth if I'm Kahn.

I'm a big fan of Brew (bought his jersey last year and still rocked it this year). Sadly I just don't think the situation here is right for him. I'd love to see him stay, but their is a logjam at his position and I don't know who they would get rid to resign him.

To me it's 50-50 or slightly higher that we re-sign him. I think the coaching staff really values him, so unless Kahn needs to use him in a deal at the trade deadline or we're drafting at a spot where SG or SG/SF hybrid is the BPA, then I think we'll try to re-sign him for 3-4 mil per.

I'd rather have Brewer than Webster at this point - which kinda surprises me. Seems like Wayne can take over Webster's roll just fine. Both are great shooters with terrible D, but Wayne, at least, can create off the dribble better than Webster can.

Re: Brewer...staying or going?
I'd really like to see him back next season. It's hard not to like him. He hustles all the time, is great in transistion and just makes plays most the time. If we could find a deal for Webster that'd be okay, although I do still like him...I just like Wes/Brew/Ellington more right now. Ellington has really improved his game, and can be that spot up shooter/instant offense.

I was excited about Webster after preseason, but now he seems inconsistent like he's been his whole career and the looming back issue doesnt help matters

My feeling is that there are a lot of players on this team that I "like", but don't necessarily "love". I think what one really has to determine is 1) who fits our system better long-term and 2) who will end up being the better player. Excellent wing players are difficult to find and while we may have a few diamonds in the rough, which one is going to end up giving us more in a year or two. It's my feeling that when (if) Web comes back healthy the battle long-term for starting 2 position is between he and Wes. Brew, unless he grows significantly, will be nothing more than an energy bench guy. He can fill in for an injured 2/3 very well, but I don't see him being a long-term solution.
That being said, I can see how Brew would be worth (in current NBA pay scale) worth a mid-level contract as a backup/fill-in player. He's an important cog to our team. I'd wait one year, let Web and Wes get more time with Brew sharing time with the lesser of the two and make our decision. I have a feeling that the majority of us will think that (of our current options) Wes and Brew are the best combination with Ellington right behind. We can then trade or not pick up Web's '12/'13 option.
We have to do the impossible, but it is possible.

Re: Brewer...staying or going?
In my mind we don't have a quality starting SG on our team right now and we don't even have one that could develop into one. Wes is a starting type SF in my mind, Web is a backup SF. Brew and Wayne are career backup SG's. So, if it was me I'd trade or let Brew walk at the end of the year and keep Wayne as a backup SG but it all depends on who the FO wants as our backup SG heading forward. I still don't necessarily like having Wes and Beas play out of position as it hurts our defensive capabilities but we really don't have much of a choice currently. We've got a lot of uncertainty as to how our team will look a couple years down the road. It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out.

I don't think he's been completely healthy at all this season so I'm willing to give him some more time. At the very least he's one of the few veterans on this team and is a positive influence in the locker room.

Re: Brewer...staying or going?
Some interesting points guys....most here think Brewer should stay....
I also would like to point out that when Wes got the DNP 10 games ago, two trends have happened:
1 - He took on the role as 6th man, and over 4 games averaged 16 ppg, shot 51% and was really aggressive. Hed got to the FT line and posted up, drove, took more shots.
2 - Now, over the last 5 games, hes averaging just 8 ppg and shooting 33%. Yes his passing has improved (12 assists to 2 TOs) but hes showing inconsistency again (even with Beasley out). He has shot just 2 FTs in over 162 mins of play. Thats unacceptable for a SG/SF.
Webster is injured again, and this season, his scoring has been erractic. He will go 3-4 games straight scoring 10 + points, then he will go 6-7 games straight not doing much at all.
I think Brewer has been the most consistent player of the three all season....he always plays with energy, his gambling on D has been cut down, and over the last 12 games hes averaging just 7.5 shots per game and hitting them at 47%.
Ellington has played surprisingly well and I think he has a place here to.

Re: Brewer...staying or going?
This just in from David Kahn about Brewer, reported by Jerry Zgoda:
He also said he isn't looking to trade Brewer, who will become a restricted free agent this summer after the team did not offer him a contract extension last fall. He also said he hasn't determined that Brewer isn't a part of the team's future. He could still be re-signed next summer once a new labor agreement is reached.
"Because Corey is in the last year of his deal and because many people like Corey's ability and upside, we receive a lot of calls on him," Kahn said. "We also have a team that's very deep at his position. It's important we listen and weigh what's the appropriate decision for the ballclub.
"Players are not like cars in a garage. You can't keep accumulating cars, you can only have so many of them. There's a balance act there and at the wing position; we're probably too heavy there. "

Welp, I think it's about time to end this thread and start up the next unnecessary Corey Brewer thread.
