I'd pretty much be willing to give up whatever TB wanted for the first pick. I know it's not likely but Stamkos can be that franchise forward and we have a plethora of picks to restock in this and the next draft.
My wet dream would be to land Stamkos and then have such a bad year next year we end up with the number one pick. Right there we could be looking at two franchise players up front to build around in SS and John Tavares.
After that I'd hope Fletcher would play hard ball with the NTC guys particularly Tucker and McCabe. Basically you tell them you can make your full salary playing for the Marlies or you forego your NTC and we see if we can move you to an NHL club. Either way you won't be on the Leafs next season or beyond. (I know it's the wrong place for the last paragraph but just had to put that in there)

It's certainly going to be interesting. I have no idea how this draft is going to pan out. We could pick one of the following, and end up with a fantastic player. The top 15, IMO looks like this:
1. Steven Stamkos
2. Drew Doughty
3. Alex Pietrangelo
4. Zach Bogosian
5. Nikita Filatov
6. Luke Schenn
7. Cody Hodgson
8. Kyle Beach
9. Colin Wilson
10. Mikkel Boedker
11. Zack Boychuk
12. Josh Bailey
13. Tyler Myers (could raise significantly- sleeper of the draft)
14. Colten Teubert
15. Luca Sbisa
1. Steven Stamkos
2. Drew Doughty
3. Alex Pietrangelo
4. Zach Bogosian
5. Nikita Filatov
6. Luke Schenn
7. Cody Hodgson
8. Kyle Beach
9. Colin Wilson
10. Mikkel Boedker
11. Zack Boychuk
12. Josh Bailey
13. Tyler Myers (could raise significantly- sleeper of the draft)
14. Colten Teubert
15. Luca Sbisa

He's also a Brian Burke type of player
I haven't seen him play frankly but I have read several articles on him and I'm still not sure whether he would be the best player available at our pick #7, I really like his Bio. here's an article on him...
http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=pag ... eid=339550
This article describes him as a Tucker/Avery type player, a pest that plays with an edge, definitely a need on any team but do we need players with more skills, either a shut down D ( Bogosian Schenn)or flat out goal scorer that plays both ends of the ice ( filatov Hodgson), he does play a good reliable game and is a plus 27 on his team...

We need a significant talent upgrade in our forwards. This is the primary area that needs improvement.
I agree but picking the best player available is probably the correct choice and if Bogosian fell to #7, I would think, he is the one I would tend to pick. As far as the forwards go, I think Filatov will be gone too when we pick so Hodgson would be the next one on the list but a wild card pick may be Boedker, he is one of the fastest players available and has a really good up side...
It is a very deep draft and after Stamkos, all the choices are pretty close, some think Filatov will go as high as #2, others think he will drop much deeper, as much as 8-10th position and the same applies to Bogosian but not past #7, so your choice is as good as mine...
So my choice I guess would be either Bogosian or Filitov and if they are taken before we pick, Hodgson would be next...

Beach is the biggest bust or boom player in the entire draft. Hes had problems with concussions and has major attitude issues or else he'd most likely be a surefire top 5 pick because of his skills. Id stay away from a player who many describe to be a headcase with a a pick so high for this team. Ideally id like to be in the top 5 and have a chance at Bogosian because I think he's the type of player this team badly needs but id settle for either Colin Wilson or Boedeker. Not really a fan of Hodgson, Beach or Schenn.

This looks like the way the draft will go and we should get a very good player. Boedker, Wilson or Hodgson will be a Leaf next year, if this list holds and a player doesn't drop out of the top 6...
Interesting to see Luca Sbisa at #10 he has moved up considerably...

Well I don't know the only consensus choice is Stamkos but I do think the first 6 will go as #'s 1-6, in which order not sure. I think that Bogosian and Filatov are pretty good players but actually out of the three adding Doughty it will be per team evaluation and they are close in skill and up side but it could go...
1 Stamkos
2 Doughty
3 Filatov
4 Bogosian
5 Pietrangelo
6 Schenn
7 Boedker/Wilson/Hodgson (These are the players as a Leaf fan I'm interested in) now one of these could move up and Schenn or Pietrangelo may drop to 7 Then we will have to decide if we want a D or a Forward?

For a historical perspective, here's a look at #7 picks going back to 1990:
2007 1 7 Columbus Jakub Voracek R Halifax Mooseheads [QMJHL]
2006 1 7 NY Islanders Kyle Okposo R Des Moines Buccaneers [USHL]
2005 1 7 Chicago Jack Skille R U.S. Junior National Team [Intl]
2004 1 7 Florida Rostislav Olesz C Vitkovice HC [Czech]
2003 1 7 Nashville Ryan Suter D U.S. Junior National Team [Intl]
2002 1 7 Anaheim Joffrey Lupul C Medicine Hat Tigers [WHL]
2001 1 7 Montreal Mike Komisarek D U. of Michigan [NCAA]
2000 1 7 Boston Lars Jonsson D Leksands IF [SEL]
1999 1 7 Washington Kris Beech C Calgary Hitmen [WHL]
1998 1 7 NY Rangers Manny Malhotra C Guelph Storm [OHL]
1997 1 7 Tampa Bay Paul Mara D Sudbury Wolves [OHL]
1996 1 7 Buffalo Erik Rasmussen C U. of Minnesota [NCAA]
1995 1 7 Winnipeg Shane Doan C Kamloops Blazers [WHL]
1994 1 7 Los Angeles Jamie Storr G Owen Sound Platers [OHL]
1993 1 7 Edmonton Jason Arnott C Oshawa Generals [OHL]
1992 1 7 Philadelphia Ryan Sittler L Nichols [N.Y. H.S.]
1991 1 7 Vancouver Alek Stojanov R Hamilton Dukes [OHL]
1990 1 7 Los Angeles Darryl Sydor D Kamloops Blazers [WHL]
It's hard to find a real pattern in that. The are impact players, solid players, role players, and a couple below that. For the most recent picks it's obviously too early to rate their careers. It suggests that the Leafs are basically guaranteed to get an NHL player at #7, but it's up to the scouting staff to draft a first-line guy instead of a third-line guy.
The other thing this shows is how much of a difference there would be if the Leafs were around #3 instead of #7 - I'm sure you'd see a much stronger group of names. But that's beating a dead horse - the impact player will be there at #7, the Leafs just have to have the ability to find him.

Can't go wrong with Boedker, Hodgson or Wilson IMO. All are very talented and have great potential. Out of those 3, I'm gonna have to say I'd take Boedker, and if Schenn drops to us definitely take him. Sign Brunnstrom and if Boedker's ready to go for the NHL:
Brunnstrom-Antropov-Kulemin
Steen-Stajan-Boedker
It's an experiment, but we've got plenty of time to play around IMO.

Has anybody been following the under 18 championships at all? The semifinals are tomorrow.
Canada versus Sweden
USA versus Russia
Filatov got a 5 minutes major for butt-ending in a 4-2 win over Canada.
The Canada game will be on TSN tomorrow at 11:00. You will get a chance to watch all the players on Canada and Hedman on Sweden. They also have some other good prospects for this year.

Hodgson does alot of things well but nothing really great and I really question his skating. Once he gets going its not too bad but he really lacks that quick first step or boost. He looks like a safe pick where you will get a solid 2 way player with leadership qualities but I think there will be guys like Boedker or Wilson who have higher ceilings then him at our pick.
