To be fair it's rare for guys to take pay cuts at this stage in their career. Like someone pointed out Lebron took less, but got the Florida tax breaks and a wink wink deal for Pat Riley's estate to make up for it. Wade however, is one of the few in recent memory to take one for the team while in the prime of his career. Our very own Amare Stoudmire might not have been a Knick had he not he received all of the intricacies that he got in his contract. With that said, it is greed 110%. Unfortunately, its not all that uncommon in the world of sports and entertainment. I'm willing to bet that Melo genuinely wants to play for the Knicks just as much as he genuinely wants his money. :D

Yeah saw that this morning agreed with both but Skip maybe would give up too much lol.

Like I said over and over and over again in the previous 78 Melo threads...people are overrating our scoring. Tonight, our shots arent falling and we cant do anything else. If Felon's off he doesnt do anything else and amare cant do it all himself. Melo doesnt need someone to get him the ball.

Ultimately its not 1 out of 3, 2 out of 3, 3 out of 3, best of 5, 3 for 10...its about building a team...or better yet having a team left.

In the scenario where NY needs to give up a lot of their young guys they need to get guys back. Trading Fields is fine but someone needs to figure out a way to get NY a replacement. Someone like JR Smith would work. If more size is dealt then someone like Birdman needs to come back.

That really is the goal...not about sentiments for our young guys.

People need to be patient. Donnie has more knowledge of what the situation is than any of us. He's trying to get the best deal possible. If he feels he has to give up more in order to ensure Carmelo lands here, he will. But if he can get Carmelo for cheap, he'll do that instead. Just let him work.

I see Lebron and Wade doing way more endorsements playing for Miami then all the Knicks put together including Amare...and isnt there any endorsements in LA where he can get a ring and his 18 Mill ?
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

Yeah, that's all you really can do. The deadline is almost here, so speculation and rumors will continue to fly until something happens between now and then.

I'm just intrigued as everyone else about getting Melo for a basically what we anticipate losing in the offseason....but we CANNOT rely of "Melo wants the be in NYC". I truly believe he means it more than just about anyone else who has ever said it, but bottom line is we have been screwed by this line of thinking in the past. Honestly, the only guy I can think of that acted on it was Amare, and that was partly b/c we were willing to give the max.

Too many variables are out there to not up the ante...at the right time.

At the right time is key. There 2 weeks until the deadline, DEN can wait, not matter how much it aggravates NYK, Melo etc. Do you really think that we will get away with trading less than WC, AR (who has become an after thought), EC (um...does that count?), and perhaps a future pick of our own? No. That is the minimum deal DEN will get from us.

I'm convinced we will give more and Donnie knows it. But you offer it all and DEN will say they want more and you won't be able to blame them b/c they will be getting unequal value anyway. So, at the right time you give either Fields or Gallo...maybe less if we can swing it. And proceed from there.

The list of the number of guys who wanted NY is too long, even if this is a different situation, to sleep easy until Melo is here with and extension.

Not the mention the uncertainty of the CBA.

Is there anything we can do with Walker and TD instead of Fields or Gallo? Either in the deal or for a 1st? I thought that DEN reportedly liked Walker and that Donnie thought he could get a 1st for TD. I'm sure he could since a playoff team could use a scorer/defender off the bench like TD I would think. Too bad I really don't like Harrington b/c that would be a nice cherry on top too.

Watching Wilson "Lost In Space" Chandler, Danilo "buffoonery foul me please before I lose the ball because i cant finish" gallinari, Landry "e=mc squared if I aim for 45th degree of the circumference known as rim" fields and Shawne "im strong to the finish when I drinks me syrup" Williams makes me wonder why I feel stingy about these forwards we have.

Never underestimate the strength of knowledge.

Bring back the physical game and send the softies home.

All those guys we have are young and are still inconsistent. Let's see how they handles a close game.

Amare is a beast by the way.
