Wow, this is pretty dramatic. There must have been some serious rifts within the organization. I think Sloan is the longest tenured coach in pro sports.

I wonder if this is retirement, or if he really admires the Bobcats and wants to come coach us.

Sloan is a very respected Coach. I wonder if this is health related rather than a rift.

Although I've always disliked the Jazz (being a Lakers fan), I feel sorry for Sloan - such a great career, no ring.

In the NFL, they grab up guys like Bill Parcells and such to be "Consultants" and help guide the team along. Jerry Sloan, if possible, should be priority one for that posistion with this (Or any) team.

Its possible. Whatever the case, its unlikely its just a run of the mill retirement situation. Otherwise, you'd expect him to wait until the conclusion of the season.

How long before Larry Brown is mentioned as a potential replacement for Sloan?

KBerg_CBS Source confirms Sloan/Johnson are out. My initial thoughts: It's like the days Michael and Magic walked away. #NBA http://bit.ly/e8aRLc

You don't replace a guy like Sloan, but Corbin will do a good job I think.

IraHeatBeat Remarkable, it was 23 years ago when I sat with Jerry Sloan as he prepared to interview for inaugural Heat job that went to Ron Rothstein.

Wow. Wonder how the Heats history would have been with Sloan as coach?

KBerg_CBS More Sloan: Tyrone Corbin likely successor, but details not yet confirmed. Reports Sloan recently signed one-year extension not quite true.

went to the jazz board trying to find out more, but seems they are as shocked as we are. amazing that some of their fans are cheering this move. i'm sure it can get frustrating as a fan watching the same offense for 23 years, but w/out sloan i would imagine the jazz would just be another struggling small market team for most of their years.

some speculation there was a rift between deron and sloan. any truth to that?

STEIN_LINE_HQ RT @tribjazz: Sources say Sloan had lost team. One described situation as Deron Williams only staying if Sloan stepped down

tribjazz Multiple sources say Williams and Sloan have gotten into at least three blowups this season.

STEIN_LINE_HQ Yet one source stressed incident was just one of many flareups in recent weeks symptomatic of declining relationship between coach and star

tribjazz Everything from playing time, Sloan's system and rotations alienated key Jazz players, sources say

tribjazz Increasing feeling that Jazz's Williams would not return after next season if Sloan stuck around, sources say

tribjazz Jazz's Sloan, Williams had heated confrontations early in season, two weeks ago and Wednesday night, sources say.

Corbin has been mentioned as an up and comer. Think he'll do fine.

From everything I have heard on the radio and from articles, it appears it really is about a rift with Deron Williams and apparenly it seems the FO people may have sided with Deron and that was enough for Sloan to walk. Form what I read, during the loss to the Bulls, Sloan called a play late and Deronl changed it and called his own play. The article said that was merely the latest event in the course of things where they relationship with Sloan and Deron was going downhill. I like Deron's game, but I wonder if he is turning into a "Coach Killer" as a prima donna? Dont have any other evidence to suggest that is the case, but this is a pretty stong piece of evidence alone.

tribjazz Jazz's Williams has been frustrated all season. Made numerous veiled references about Sloan not being willing to change or even listen

chadfordinsider RT @STEIN_LINE_HQ: 2 sources say Wed tension started when DWill ran different play than play called by Sloan, leading to halftime blowup

WojYahooNBA Showdown between Sloan and Williams became so heated Wednesday, at least two Jazz players feared they could come to blows. Never escalated

tribjazz While news of Sloan leave is shocking and sad, key Jazz sources say move has been building all season

STEIN_LINE_HQ From everything known about latest clashes, frustrated as D-Will was/is, it was Sloan who essentially said "me or him." Result: Resignation

So after this, how much of a douche will D.Will come off as if he just up and leaves the Jazz when his contract is over any ways?

Wow that's pretty dirty of the organization to choose a star player over an iconic head coach who has been with the organization for 20+ yrs.
