Deron, put up or shut up.

Post#1 » by carrottop12 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 8:35 pm

If the rumors are true that Deron and Sloan's relationship is the reason Sloan is on his way out, it is time for Deron to take over this team, and elevate them to a level he believes they are capable of.

We have all debated Deron's effectiveness as a leader on this team, its time for him to prove himself. This team is at a serious crossroads, and there shouldn't be any more road blocks for Deron. Deron just put the weight of this team on his shoulders, I hope he can handle it.

I agree with Bat.

But you guys are hilarious with your newfound DWill vitriol.

If you took an anonymous poll of the current Jazz players I'm guessing most of them aren't unhappy with this. This isn't just Deron thing. Deron's tight with the key players on the team. He's the mouthpiece for them. You're kidding yourselves if you don't think Millsap and the rest are all on Deron's side on this one.

Deron is going to leave and at least Boozer gave respect where respect was due. Only reason Booze left was because he never got settled here in Utah with his personal issues.

I will support Deron as long as he's on the team. But if and when he ditches us when things aren't suddenly all roses a year from now, I will turn whole-heartedly against him.

KOC better ball up and get some real solid role-based pieces around Deron, if he's going to ride his c0ck in the first place. And Deron better stop being a negative bitch, because he's clearly spoiled with whatever he wants.

So Deron got frustrated that Gordon didn't run a play in a system Deron doesn't believe in in the first place?

On the other hand we need to consider the other side of the argument:

# Doesn't mean Sloan wanted DWill dealt. Sloan wanted HIS way to continue to be only way Jazz do things. @tribjazz details weeks of resistance less than 20 seconds ago via ÜberTwitter

# From everything known about latest clashes, frustrated as D-Will was/is, it was Sloan who essentially said "me or him." Result: Resignation 3 minutes ago via ÜberTwitter

# RT @tribjazz: D-Will has been frustrated all season. Made numerous veiled references about Sloan not being willing to change or even listen 11 minutes ago via ÜberTwitter

Thank you. I've never been a big fan of Marc Stein and I'm not going to unquestioningly believe that what he's saying is true, BUT people are pinning waaaaaaaaaay too much on Deron. Obviously, he deserves some blame. And, yes, his attitude and leadership skills have been questionable this year. And, yes, he's a stubborn and angry person who doesn't always handle things the right way and might be hard to deal with at times. That being said, do you know who's also a stubborn and angry person who doesn't always handle things the right way and might be hard to deal with at times? That's right: the much-revered Jerry Sloan.

All relationships are two-way streets and if this one's truly fallen apart to this extent (which seems incredibly likely), that's as much Jerry's fault as Deron's. If the opposite of what Stein says is the truth and Deron was the one who said "it's me or him," then I have an issue with that. That would be immature and disrespectful. On the other hand, if he didn't do that and all he's guilty of is taking issue with and arguing over the job Sloan's done this year (and I don't think he'd be alone there amongst the players on this team), I don't see why that makes him the anti-Christ.

Can we hold all the anti-Deron crap til we know what, if any, role he played in this? And also, whether or not he was right in doing so? Let's see how the team responds first. As far as trading D-Will for a late first round pick.... seriously? You sound like a bitter ex-girlfriend.

People also have to realize that Deron could very well be representing the rest of the team in his position with Sloan. Deron may be trying to be the leader that we want him to be by standing up to the unquestioned leader in favor of the rest of the players on the team.

If any other played had stood up to Sloan there is no doubt that they'd be out the door, just like Arroyo. Deron really is the only player on the team who has the stature to face up against Sloan if there was an issue for the team.

I'm not buying that Dwill's differences with Sloan are worse than Karl's were. I want to hear how Deron reacts before pinning this on him even if that's what the talking heads are saying because they have some facts that appear that way. Every team every year has player-coach issues. (3) reported incidents in 54 games is not convincing me...yet.

Regarding interviews, Dwill is very emotional after bad losses and sometimes things come out stronger than they normally would.

Jerry looked like he had no regrets when said this was the right time to do it. It was with a smile on his face that was happy with what was and what will be.

*edit*
Let Dwill speak for himself
He's been more to this town, to this organization than I have, um, by far. Not my place. If that was the case I would just say I wanted out before it would come to that.

I thought Deron's interview was great. I especially liked the quote you used.

I loved how he threw the national media (and Ric Bucher in particular) under the bus for all their speculation.
