OT: Jerry Sloan Leaves Utah

Post#1 » by Patterns » Thu Feb 10, 2011 11:02 pm

I feel like this deserves its own thread.

I've come to respect Jerry Sloan recently because he's been consistently good with or without star players. He has made Utah relevant as an NBA city. Utah isn't a great place to attract free agents but some how he's gotten them to the playoffs every year except for one.

Once he leaves Utah, I fear that the franchise is going to struggle because they won't have a coach that can produce wins out of scrub players and they can't attract any big free agents.

Sad day for the NBA.

Man, never thought I'd live long enough to see this day. I always imagined Sloan would die of old age on the Utah bench one day.

I dont know what happened but it does not allow for me to look at Williams in a positive light anymore.
Sloan is a true class act and i'm sure he was set in his ways but that organization will certainly miss him

That would be fantastic. But sad to see the Sloan era come to this abrupt of an end. Would've been great to see him gracefully step down than just up and leave. And if this whole mess is about Deron is true, well then he's a bigger a-hole than advertised. Shame to know that by the 2012 season the Jazz will be without their franchise coach and PG.

Much Respect to Jerry Sloan. One of the greatest. I wonder if he'll ever coach again.

Williams pretty much comes off as an a-hole and I agree with Deep that he'll bail as soon as he realizes that Sloan alone kept them competitive at that budget. If they had Knick money to spend all these years Jerry, Pop, and Phil would have hogged the lion share of rings for the last 25 years.

I'd take Williams over Sloan anyday.

Jerry Sloan could probably pick up 3 RealGM players with an NBA PG and PF and generate a fully functioning offense.

Did anyone hear what Sloan said at the press conference? I missed it because of class.

I can't see Sloan coaching LA. He said he wants to move to IL and spend time with his grandkids. Other than that, he seems like a lifer for Utah. I'd love it if I was wrong, though.

I lost a TON of respect for Williams if what is being reported is true. He's been a prima donna this season. It's unfortunate.

All in all, this is really unfortunate.

Hey I know someone that was really good friends with Williams in Illinois. I mentioned what happend with Sloan and they said that it seems a bit out of character for D Will to blow up at someone. My friend said he was pretty laid back guy. Sad to hear it went down like this.

Do you all think he could take over the Celtics or Los Angeles in 2012? I don't see him coaching a none elite team after Utah.

The Lakers are a vet team I dont think its a good idea bringing in a brand new system next year team after being in the triangle system for so long. Shaw will probably be the coach next season.
