I think there is a better chance of winning a championship with Melo. The Celtics are getting old and the Heat and Bulls are going to be good for years to come. we have to get up there with these teams. They have established stars. No time to wait around. get Melo now!!!

And then how do we improve beyond that?

if melo with no long term deals taken back, amare, melo, + 15 mill to play with in 2012

build bench via draft, vet signings, etc

To an extent he is probably right.... it's not about white or black, it's about "vibing" with the guys, temperament... Pat Rilley type..

That being said, it was all moot given it was predetermined - still a point to an extent.

Knicks coach: Stop chanting for Melo
GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni sent a subtle message to fans on Thursday: Stop chanting for Carmelo Anthony; it's affecting my players.

The Knicks coach said the Garden crowd's chants of "We Want Me-Lo" on Wednesday night had a negative impact on some the Knicks during their loss to the Clippers.

"It's not good. There's no doubt about it," D'Antoni said. "It affects some of the players without a doubt."

Knicks fans started the "We Want Me-Lo" chant with about six minutes to play in the third quarter of the Knicks' 116-108 loss to the Clippers on Wednesday. The Knicks trailed by 16 at the time.

"I hate it for them," the coach said. "Because you're banged up and hurting and trying to push through certain things. Psychologically, it's not the best thing at times."

D'Antoni has addressed the issue with his players, telling them to avoid the potential distractions and focus on basketball.

"They have to harden up and harden their skin up and know that, 'I've got to play well.'" D'Antoni said. "That's your job and again, a certain part of you, you hate it for the players. But at the same time, that's part of the business."

Felton said that he heard the "We Want Me-Lo" chants from the Garden crowd, but they didn't affect his play.

"Stuff like that don't bother me. I don't worry about that," he said. "The fans, they chant everything. All the chanting and stuff don't bother me. Stuff has been said about Melo since Day 1. It's just one thing [that] goes in one ear and out the other."

Randolph, who has been mentioned in trade rumors involving Anthony, also said he wasn't affected by the fans' chants.

"It doesn't bother me, I've got no reaction to it," he said. "I really don't pay attention to what the crowd is chanting and stuff. I'm trying to focus on the game. ... We leave that up to management to take care of that."

In 14 days if Denver KEEPS Melo they will write a check for their salaries and 13.2 million dollars in luxury tax for about 97 million.

IF they trade Melo with Minny involved and Brewer or another 4 million dollar player comes back. The check will be (including no Luxury-Tax and their portion of the Luxury tax pool (for arguments sake(***4 million): 77 million

SUMMARY:
No Luxury tax, difference in Salaries + ***4 million from the Luxury tax pool= 24 million in savings...

Denver's gate receipts for last year were 34 million. With 10 home games left after the deadline. Do you really think if Denver even makes it to the 2nd round and gets knocked out after playing 4 home games in their building that they will come close to making making 24 million- even if you include net revenue from the 10 home games????

AGAIN, the value in the pre-deadline savings ALONE justifies KROENKE green lighting this deal. Melo doesn't want to be there and there is NO guarantee that he will sign the extension.

If I'm Kroenke, I take the 24 million, the picks, and young players that I can give a shot to or trade for more assets. There is absolutely NO REASON to include anything else in this deal...

One last note, If they do not intend on keeping Nene, Martin, Billups, and JR Smith or any one of those players. That even makes this deal that much more crucial to execute. You will get more value for any/all of these players pre-deadline...

Thoughts??

***(2010)The non-tax teams don't split that entire pot, however. Each team gets 1/30th of the kitty, so those 19 franchises under the threshold can expect to receive roughly $3.98 million each.

Sleeper alert who can very well be the Philadelphia Phillies on the Carmelo race.

New Orleans Hornets

Why don't you think they gave David West a contract extension yet? David West has an opt out in his final year next year and if he is traded to Denver you know he is opting out.

New Orleans Hornets
Carmelo Anthony
Renaldo Balkman

Denver Nuggets
David West (2011-2012 opt out year)
Trevor Ariza
Marcus Banks (4.7 mil expiring)
New Orleans 1st rd pick

Knicks have to up their offer, because New Orleans might also be able to make a run for him in the summer of 2011.

well im not listening right now so i didnt hear what was said

but if his point is that the nba has changed and teams have to play nice with clowns from CA, give them FO jobs, and suck up to them, then I would agree....I see that is the way its going to be with these star player driven agencies

I find it amusing that the media keeps talking as if the deadline is over. Like Denver asked for Gallo straight up for Melo and the Knicks said no. Nothing happened yet. It's negotiating. The media is too excited with all of this. -Jitpal

It's how the media makes their money. I just love all the posters who echo everything SAS says.

Stephen A's first day back he said Donnie could have had Melo weeks ago if he includes 2/3, and that Melo was feeling like the Knicks weren't doing enough to get him.

both storys that would have sold that never hit papers/twitter.........the guy snuck World Wide Wussy into ESPN and gave him a hand job for information on the Divas, and thats his claim to fame. he supported Isiah for years while destroying this franchise, yet already is calling for Donnies head, whos left us flexible.

hes the worst thing possible for NY radio...
