The media has a way of making the Knicks more relevant than they historically have been. Players aren't really trying to get to the Knicks. No one was interested in the Knicks when Ewing played. No one tried to get there when Houston and Sprewell were there. The Knicks were lucky to even get Amare. If the Suns believed he could stay healthy throughout a max contract extension they would have resigned him. NBA players want to play in warm cities for the most part as a 1st option. NBA players will take Houston's money over New York's. Now, the advantages the city of New York has on endorsement deals is another thing. Historically how well have NBA players done in New York with endorsements? Nike launched Anfernee Hardaway's his "Lil Penny" campaign from Orlando, and Lebron became King James without ever leaving Ohio.

Pure coincidence!

I agree. The guys I think who might be the most susceptible to this are Deron and Dwight (not saying they'll want to go to NY, but just saying that they may find the draw of say a Lakers or a Celtics more appealing than their current situation).

Especially given the current flux their Team(s) are in both on and off the Court.

I know you're being sarcastic...but just incase anyone actually thought that about the NY fanabse here on the GB. It's not true (speaking on the majority side). Yes, we like what Felton brings to the Table, and he's a step in the right direction from Duhon...but we'd still like an upgrade if one ever presents itself. :D

RonMercerMVP wrote:My question: Do they really think they could get every single star on the same team? Are they informed of the salary cap? It's gonna be even worse with the new CBA most likely. I can't even fathom how stupid the Knicks FO is.

No. They do not think that.

Most around the League will tell you that Donnie is a VERY patient man (sometimes too patient at times). He also has a great grasp of not only the Salary Cap, but of the concept of a proper rebuild into a Contender.

He's surrounded himself with some good Management guys in NY, and he's set himself up to be a Player in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Will it always pan out? No, absolutely not. BUT, the key point is that he has put NY into a position to be a player. ;)

The last regime in NY to do that was Grunfeld.

Pringles system dont focus on D, so getting Dwight would be pointless, he'll probably start camping out at the 3pt line and chucking away

uh we all know defense isn't the focus of the system but Dwight would be the answer to that.
He hasn't been on teams stacked with defensive players but offensive players and anchors them to top seeding.
its always been Dwight and 3pt shooters, it would be a better system with better players even without CP3.
so

Lol. What a load of garbage. You do realize that Boston and Chicago average much colder temperatures than New York and they don't have any problems attracting players. If there's any reason players do not want to play in New York; it has more to do with the pressure of playing in the largest media market in the USA than to do with the weather. As for no one wanting to play next to Ewing? In the 80's and 90's, how many superstars can you name that have switched NBA franchises during the prime of their career? I didn't see superstars flocking to play with Michael Jordan when they were free agents for all his greatness either -- and I'm sure it had nothing to do with Chicago winters, and more to do with lack of opportunity. NBA franchise players stuck with their teams during that era, and that's pretty much a fact. As for endorsements, every great player can get endorsements regardless of where they play. But the overall net worth of a player increases when playing in New York. For example, no one is disputing the fact that LBJ could make millions regardless of where he played; but his net worth was projected to break 1 billion had he decided to play with the Knicks. There's a reason why the Knicks are currently the most valuable franchise in the NBA, despite having over a decade of losing seasons. How many other teams in any other sport can make the same claim?

My thoughts exactly. ESPN has gotten out of hand with the Knicks. They feel that Knicks are entitled to every player.
