Kahn quote:
"Players are not like cars in a garage. You can't keep accumulating cars, you can only have so many of them."

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/21 ... z1Dca4YfNe

Which of course implies that we CAN keep accumulating players. I'm going to follow the letter, and not the spirit, of the quote. I expect a roster of 20+ players by February 24th LEAGUE RULES BE DAMNED!
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

Yeah, but players are like cars in a garage. A garage that holds 15 cars.

completely agree, remember folks...we are going to have to extend love and beasley next year AND "IF" we get randolph and he breaks out next year(contract year) he would need an extension as well...i wouldn't want to bring in a big contract if it meant saying goodbye to beasley(obviously wouldn't let love go)...beasley has also showed great loyality and hard work in coming out and saying he would love to sign and extention and be here for the long haul.

We can go over the cap to sign our own guys.

i understand that, but the bottom line will come down to this, does our owner want to spend what will be formerly luxury tax dollars on a team that won't be ready to compete for the playoffs, let alone a championship for a few season...okc has done the same thing...they chose not to spend their cap space a few years ago on big free agents instead decided to put it all towards resigning their own players....i don't believe we will be able to have it both ways - just like okc couldn't.

Not if the new CBA doesn't have a soft cap.

I'd assume a hard cap would be a lot higher though.

I think you guys are making a bit too much of the contracts. The team salary next year is a couple million lower than it is right now. The additions would be Rubio and Draft picks.

$17 million under the current cap projection ($60,070,000).
Under current rules, the luxury tax would start at $73,139,000 in 2011/12. Of course this will change in the next CBA. Currently 4 teams are under this years cap, 8 are over the luxury rate. Perhaps a hard cap at 66.5 million???

Kahn has the team in fantastic shape for flexibility, Taylor must be happy with him.

Some of these contracts are interesting. I didn't Ridnour and Tolliver's go down a little next year and that Koufos option looks worse if he's getting paid more then AT.

Yep, weird to see a deal go down a little the next year. Koufos is still a tiny contract by NBA standards, he doesn't look like a total bust either, he has done ok when he gets the minutes, for a third stringer that is.

oops, left out Brewers Qualifying offer - $4,966,356. No way Kahn does that though. And Webster get 600k no matter what in 2012/13.

I didn't finish my thought earlier. If you take the Beas and Love qualifying offers, toss in Rubio, Wes and Wayne then add in the cash they have to give to Darko, Pek, Luke. The wolves are around $39 million in the 2012/2013 season for their top 8 guys, plus whatever they hand out to rookies. The payroll will probably be right about where it is now, $45 million. Plenty of room to maneuver with that, no matter what the NBA does to the CBA . 65 million?

What would it take to get Webster from Toronto's perspective...?

I don't think Kahn would trade him right now, he hasn't been healthy enough to know how good he is.
