Walsh has kept Gallinari, Fields and Felton off the table, though Fields is the likeliest pawn to be thrown in.
Anthony's stunning remarks Wednesday about taking "a hard look" at Denver's contract extension could be a ploy to get Walsh to ante up and not wait until free agency. It is an enormous debate within the Knicks on whether Walsh has to give up significant assets beyond Chandler and Anthony Randolph, since he may be able to acquire Anthony in the summer as a free agent, using max cap room.
There's also a quarrel over whether the money is better spent on a beastly free-agent center that Walsh craves -- and there's a slew Walsh likes.
A person familiar with the situation said Anthony recently was concerned about testing the free-agent market, wondering if the Knicks were guaranteed to go after him.
That fear arose after a Post story in which Walsh was quoted as saying he'd definitely re-sign Chandler and that he may target centers in free agency. During that time, Anthony made that comment about not being sure the Knicks wanted to break up their team "from what I've read."
The newest rumor is the Nuggets want Felton, and the Knicks would take aging Chauncey Billups -- a scenario Knicks president Donnie Walsh wants no part of.
