Resigning Jeff Green
Hey guys Nets fan here. I'm a fan of Jeff Green and I was curious if you guys thought you would match offers from any team interested in him. I was curious how much you value him.
Like if someone offered up like 10 mil would you match, what if they offered 12mil, would you match that.
I would really like my Nets to put a bid in for him if we are unable to fill our SF spot through the draft and I wanted to know what it would take to pry him away. You guys really don't need him since Durant has his position locked down. So how much would we have to offer for you guys to back down.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Resigning Jeff Green
At this point, I'd be unhappy if the team matched any offer. He can't be effective in OKC because he has to play mostly PF, even if he comes off the bench. And our coach can't stop playing him 40 minutes a game.
From the front office's perspective, I don't see how they could justify matching an offer of more than $7M-$8M a year or so. But the Thunder can get a better player for their team for that money that fits into the roster..

Re: Resigning Jeff Green
12 Million I don’t think the Thunder could pay him. I don’t even think they will pay him 10 million. I think the Thunder will take a wait and see approach and see how the new CBA turns out. I have a feeling the NBA is going to want to make it easier for teams to keep four stars in the next CBA.
He has been playing 40 min's because it gives everyone else a rest and also gives the Thunder some leverage because he is not playing as well, with the more minutes. All of his numbers are down.
BTW Green will grow into this PF position, as will KD's growth into the PF position. Green is only 24 yrs.
The Nets just give Outlaw 5 years $35 million to play SF. Now you want to add another guy @ a bigger salary? Doesn't make sense, unless you find some team to take on that HUGE contract he just signed last summer.
When it comes down to it this is an extremely interesting topic. There are multiple ways the Thunder can go about it. The two most viable options are can sit and see (this is how the Thunder roll), or they can trade Green, since he is a hot topic player (thanks Chad Ford), for a Center.
At the end of the day I do not think Green leaves.
He will get a larger contract offer from another team but, I do not think he wants to leave

Thanks for the input. . . Yeah the we do have money invested in Outlaw but he's not living up to his contract. We have Lopez to extend soon and this will likely be our last year under the cap to make a splash. We need a guy that can come in and hold down the SF spot and with the 20 million in cap space we will have to spend he seems like the perfect fit for us. There aren't really that many FA's that fit the Nets needs except him and Chandler.
We are going to try and add as many young talented players to our roster in the next few years to build towards 2012 and Brooklyn. At that point I expect us to try and do whatever we can to land a CP3 or D-Will.
Good luck to you guys I'm rooting for you. I love Westbrook and Durant and hope you guys can land that C that puts you over the top. I've had enough of LA and BOS. Shock the world fellas and pull the upset.

Green will stay here for a reasonable contract.

Really Wiff? So there is no chance that a 24 year old 6'9" guy who weighs 230 will not put on weight? Come on man. Get a Clue.

It's not "Weight" that's stopping Jeff Green from preventing Zach Randolph from taking a giant dump on him every game..

I can't believe Thunder fans exist that still believe Jeff Green can play PF.

I didnt say he is a GREAT PF? Nor do I think he is a average PF. But, he is undersized for his position. It is weight. Name me 5 above average PF who are 225? The guy is playing out of position night in and night out. But, when he is 28 four years from now and has built up the experience I think he and Durant for that matter will be able to guard and ahndel the 4's.
Everyone needs to stop hating on Jeff Green. This team would be Great with a legit center, not with the removel of Jeff Green (he does alot of good things but nothing great, and you see when he has a good game the Thunder do not loose).

Re: Resigning Jeff Green
Balkman, you understand that you're essentially saying you want to waste 4 years waiting for Jeff Green to become able to play the position the Thunder need him to play? Even if what you were saying was true, and he only needed to add weight to be a good PF (not sure how weight affects his 43% shooting or his 4 threes on 30% a game, but hey, let's humor the idea) you're wasting 4 years of Durant and Westbrook's prime. That just makes no sense.
The Thunder should use all their money this offseason trying to get the best big they can, not waste 8mil a year on a stretch 4 that shoots 43% and averages .7 more rebounds than the point guard.

Almost every way we can objectively assess Jeff Green's performance says the same thing: he's horrible in his current role.

Dude it's not his weight that is stopping him from being an effective PF. It's his length!
Plenty of guys are 6'9" But they have loooooooooooooooong arms. Jeff Green does not have long arms. Nor does he rebound well, which most people will tell you is about effort. Nor does he shoot the ball particularly well either, actually he's crappy at shooting.
I always found that interesting when the Sonics drafted a guy with the top 5 pick that can't shoot and is undersized for where they were playing him at. He'd be a great 6th man. But the coach is an idiot.
Look dude I have given the guy every chance in the world, but another 4 years at PF is not the answer. He needs a new team with a new position.
Or he needs a new role in OKC. I know the guy goes out and tries. He is simply doing what the insane coach is asking him to do. And honestly I have a feeling the coach is doing what the management has laid the ground work on. Green is being a good soldier fighting the good fight. But FOR THE LOVE OF GOD 25 POUNDS ISN"T GOING TO MAKE HIS ARMS GROW!
Jeff Green is not a "starting PF" in the league and his stats prove it.
Just once watch a game between the Thunder and the Hornets.
David West is 6'9" and he destroys Green. Why because West might only be 6'9" but the dude is long!

Thanks wiff. I've been spouting off on Green's length for years and nobody took me seriously. There are a few rare exceptions, but Green's not one of them.

Re: Resigning Jeff Green
Even Green's defensive and rebounding liability could be excused if he could actually operate as a stretch 4, but it seems he operates most effectively offensively in the post, and he shoots 30% from 3.

Re: Resigning Jeff Green
The Thunder have been very cheap to date, so I would be pretty shocked if they matched a $9-12 mill offer. I've been hoping they would sign a good PF these last two summers. That being said, the fact that they have held onto him this long is pretty telling. They definitely like him and feel like he should be with this team long term. I would be shocked if they matched a big offer, but I would also be very shocked if they just let him walk.
