You could be right but I wouldn't bet money on it. And if this report is true it seems like they have moved beyond financial savings. Plus you have to factor in the value of the Nuggets with and without Melo. Especially, if it's true that he wants to sell.

Come on Johnny, the bottomline here is if you're Kroenke and you know Melo is gone/opting out then Kroenke's 5 year old grand child will pull the trigger on this deal

To be honest I didn't remember the circumstances around Camby's trade out of Denver. And now that I've looked it up I think there is a little myth going on about it:

Here is a quote from an ESPN article talking about the trade:

Exiling Camby for essentially no return was certainly not the Nuggets' preference, but finances forced their hand. The Allen Iverson-Carmelo Anthony-Camby trio could not get out of the first round in two tries and couldn't even win a game in a humbling first-round playoff exit to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, leaving Denver convinced that it had to start drastically cutting payroll to allow for further reshaping of its roster. The Nuggets, for starters, will now have more cushion to match potential offers to restricted free agent J.R. Smith if they choose.

Chapman didn't rule out the possibility of another move being made before the start of the season.

"It's a fluid situation," he said. "Are we going to continue to look for ways to improve the team? Absolutely. We felt like the right trade came along at the right time. We felt like we needed to strike while the iron was hot. We're not going to make a bad deal … We're not satisfied with winning 50 games or getting to the playoffs. Our goal is to win a championship. We felt like we needed to shake things up and be able to have flexibility going forward to put a championship team on the court."

The Nuggets had the league's fourth-highest payroll last season and are required to pay $13,572,079 in luxury taxes by July 23. Denver's preference naturally would have been trading away Brazilian forward Nene or fellow forward Kenyon Martin, but Martin is due to earn roughly $46.5 million over the next three seasons and is the only player in the NBA to undergo microfracture surgery on both knees. Nene makes slightly less than Camby over the next two seasons but was limited to 16 games last season and underwent surgery to treat testicular cancer.

In the article they also talk about how Denver had the league's fourth highest payroll. So, it seems that trade was more about cap space flexibility then luxury tax penalties.

there's reports everywhere that kroneke is unhappy with how much money he's spending on the nuggets. there's no debate here.

Duh, almost certainly there is one parent company that owns all the franchises.

edit:

Kroenke is also the owner of Kroenke Sports Enterprises, which includes the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, Colorado Avalanche of the NHL, Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League and St. Louis Rams of the NFL. He is also a major shareholder of English football club Arsenal.

CP3 IS the Hornets. You can't just look at his numbers.

He is the most unselfished superstar, if he wanted to he can average 23/10 but rather get his team involved more. Replace Felton with CP3 on this team and it's game over.

Any PG can roll out of bed in mike D's system and avg 17 and 9. With the amount of possessions per game and the minutes felton plays he will get his numbers. But he plays "ZERO" defense and always seems to lead the team in shooting when he has a broke jumper. Billups is no answer but for 2 years he is a nice stop gap and if it allows us to keep gallo and fields I will personally pack feltons bags and **** his overweight self to denver personally.

agreed, it's injuries too but the rumors definitely have affected them.

Yep, there's a black cloud over MSG until the soap opera is over. We may not play well as a team in the meantime. Nobody, but Amar'e is immune to worry over being shipped out.

for once I agree with your stupid ass. People, please realize Felton is DOA ANYWAYS. As soon as we get Melo, that's the key to bringing in Paul. He's coming here once Carmar'e is in place. It's a WRAP. Failton is expendable once this trade goes down, irrespective if he's part of the deal or not. Same goes for Billups.

Getting Paul or Williams is not necessarily a lock to happen. In the event that there is no upgrade at PG available, I'd rather have the younger and more durable Felton as an option to re-sign than Billups.

unless the CBA drastically changes, how do you propose we get paul in 2012 if amare and melo have max contracts @ 20mil a piece?

we have a team option for Billups going into 2012. At worst, we'll have him for half a season in 11/12 and we can trade him as part of a huge expiring contract deal at the deadline. He can't play defense, but he's got a ring, and he's a winner. I'd love to have that type of guy as a stop gap.

Not really. With the Knicks likely capped out or near cap they need guys that will be here for a bit (like Chris Anderson) or guys that can be expected to be in top playing shape (like JR Smith) for some time. Billups option actually hurts us since if we excercise it (assuming Felton is dealt) theire really is no viable alternative.

It's the day of the deadline and Walsh is still reluctant to give what Denver wants. Not that dumbass package that Bucher reported but maybe something else.

Does Dolan step in and make him do it?
