Not much as a player either as he was nothing more than a journeyman. I think his resume is very very weak myself.

Does he deserve a chance? Sure. He's got my support, and I hope he wins CotY every season. But, excuse me if I might be more comfortable with a guy like Mike Brown instead.

It's not that difficult to do your homework on Ty. He has a bio on nba.com for crying out loud.

As a player, Ty played for: Cotton Fitzsimmons, Lenny WIlkins, Bill Musselman, Jerry Sloan, Pat RIley, and Rick Adelman. I'd call that pretty impressive. Not to mention the fact he's been Assistant Coach here in Utah for the last seven years and has had head-coaching interviews with Atlanta, Washington, and Chicago which he narrowly lost out on I believe. And from everything I've read, he has the players behind him and their support. This could be an opportunity where players feel comfortable about going to Ty and proposing grievances or changes and better communication rather than being feared of being benched under the Sloan era.

Granted its another sport, but I compare this to Bill Cower leaving Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin the assistant with no head-coaching experience took over and has since led the Steelers to two Super Bowls.

Well, he's not walking in off the street. But, he has zero head coaching experience at any level. Right?

Seems like he has a pretty damn good reputation. And my guess is that the first guy on that list was unavailable.

Zero coaching experience? He's been the Jazz's assistant for the last 7 years. You mean head coaching experience? So what? Do all NBA head coaches start off with head coaching experience? Sloan started in Utah with head-coaching experience with the Bulls but was 91-121 with them. Tom Thibodeau, Scott Skiles, Scott Brooks, and even Nate McMillan are all coaches who were unproven but have become successful within the last 5 years.

All right, I'll shut up. If he keep us in the playoffs, where we were when he started, I'll consider it a good hire. Fair enough? He should even have access to Okur eventually to help his depth.

Not completely. Ty may want to make major changes. There already will be a change in the entire coaching staff with a new head coach and two new assistants. That transition can be difficult, especially if the Jazz decide to trade AK just to dump salary. If he can coach the Jazz into playing competitive every night rather than their tendency to go down big and fight back or lay down to bad teams, then I'll call it a good hire. Dude will need time though to make the changes he wants and the rotation he thinks is best.

:D I'll stick to my generous objective measure. You can have your ill defined subjective measures.

The good thing about this is that the All-Star break is coming up and he'll have a break to get together with his coaching-staff and figure out what changes they want to make, if any.
