OT - Jimmy Robinson to Dallas

Post#1 » by Wilford Brimley » Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:53 pm

TomSilverstein

WR coach Jimmy Robinson has left the Packers to become Dallas Cowboys O coordinator. That's a loss for the Packers and a big gain for Dal.

****.

@jasonjwilde: Jimmy Robinson is the Dallas Cowboys' new WR coach, not off coordinator, based on this story

And so it begins. We'll be lucky if he's the only one we lose. Moss might be gone too. And/or Perry. The price of success.

The Packers didn't have to allow Robinson to interview. Last year they denied the Bears request to interview Clements. Only if it's a head coaching job does a team HAVE to allow another team to interview an assistant. Even though a coordinators job is a step up persmission can still be denied.

Strange that he is leaving for a lateral move.

Very weird he's heading into the screwed up Jerry Jones organization. I'm sure he's getting a big bump in salary but still. And I'm surprised MM even let him go. Maybe something going on we are not aware of.

Coming out that he will be the assistant head coach in addition to being the WR coach so no doubt a big pay bump.

Maybe we were just tired of our WR's dropping so many damn balls. There are coaches that I would be way more upset with losing than Robinson.

I'm not sure how a coach can stop dropped balls but there is definitely a reason MM let him go. Greene and Perry are the two I most want to keep. Maybe one of them can take over for Capers when he retires.

Could we have retained him?

Yes, an assistant under contract does not have to be allowed to interview for anything other than a head coaching position.

Oh ok. I thought so long as it was a promotion of any kind you could not retain him.

Interesting we chose not to. Maybe because of the drops?

this is from ESPN last year:

The Packers denied the Bears’ request to speak with Clements about the opening, a league source confirmed Monday night. Even though going from position coach to coordinator is a major promotion in the coaching ranks, teams are allowed to block their assistants from interviewing for other positions, unless that position is head coach.

Dude's been a WR coach for over 20 years. This is a loss, but a loss I'm confident we can handle. He probably just wanted to be someplace warmer and got a nice pay bump on top of it.

I wonder if they'll look into bringing Ray Sherman back. I know the wideouts loved him in his last stint here. Particularly Driver and Jennings.

I also want to keep our DL coach Trgovac and Clements (Rodgers seems to really like and respect the guy).

I believe Trgovac said he was coming back for sure, I know Clements is rumored to be in the running for the Titans OC job and with that rumor comes the attached rumor that they may want to trade for Flynn if Clements is their OC.

It would suck to lose Clements. AR has given him massive respect in the interviews I've seen this year.

The Pack refused to let Clements invterview last year, I see no reason why they would change their mind now. Granted it was a division rival last year who wanted him but if AR wants to keep him, we keep him.
