lol Everyone's just mad.

Can we at least wait until Denver makes up another trade rumor before we overreact?

Fields will be sacrificed if its absolutely needed.
Chandler, Fields, Randolph, and Curry is the absolute highest I would go.
get it done donnie!!
(although one may argue swapping out gallo for fields since fields give more balance at the SG spot, but whatever)
Yeah Gallo is the better player [right now], but I'm not sure he'd fit as well as Fields would with Melo.. Long term, if we see Fields as a real starter it would probably be in our interest to hold onto the guy we could see starting with melo and Amare rather than the guy that would be off the bench.... but tbh I don't care which we keep - there interchangeable to me.

They do count but your only looking at gallo points not his shooting percentage all your looking he scored 14 points.

They both shot about the same percentage.

somebody else was trying that yesterday to. they need to take into account the points they are giving up on there poor shooting% that cant be made up by the Free Throws....its great hes getting to the line, but if thats all hes doing then its not productive enough.
1-14 in 3s in the last 2 games. i wonder how many of those translated into points for the other team.

Can someone make an argument for why we need to keep Fields? His biggest strength is rebounding, but Carmelo can more than make up for his rebounding. Fields isn't a good defender, and in the playoffs when all playoff teams have quality SG's Fields would be exposed. He has very sub-par lateral quickness. If you tell me I have to choose between Fields and Gallo, I would much rather have Gallo next to Amare/Melo/Felton than Fields. With a Felton/Fields/Melo/Amare/Moz lineup we are still poor defensively, we would be an above average rebounding team, but I don't see a great offensive team there. I see 2 superstars and some role players. Give me Gallo with that lineup. I just think keeping Fields is a very short-sighted move if we have to include 2 out of the 3 young players. I'd love to keep Fields and Gallo, sign Melo in the summer, then use Fields/Gallo/Felton to get a prime-time PG but that no longer seems like an option with the way Melo is forcing things to go down.
I think certain posters are having delusions about what type of team we will be if we have Amare and Melo. These are 2 of the purest scorers in the league, and not the best defenders in the world. We will never be a great defensive team with these guys, so our goal should be to create one of the greatest offensive teams of all-time. So give me Gallo/Amare/Melo putting teams in the penalty real fast over being an average rebounding team instead of below average.

NEW YORK — Kobe Bryant flashed a wry smile when asked whether another superstar could help the Knicks make a deep playoff run.
“Is that your way to ask me about the ‘Melo stuff?” Bryant said after scoring 33 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the Lakers’ 113-96 win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
“They have some really good pieces here and I think the future is bright for them. But who are we kidding? We’re talking about Carmelo Anthony. Let’s not go crazy. Carmelo Anthony is a bad boy, so you figure it out.”
When asked if the Lakers might get Anthony instead, Bryant said, “Don’t start that [stuff], man.”

Actually he defends JJ and Stephen Jackson well. They can still play with matchups cause Melo can defend some 2s.

Gallo can guard most of those guys fine. The people Gallo has trouble guarding against are the pure SG's, not the ones that dribble to create. The catch and shoot types that run off screens destroy Gallo whenever he is stuck on them. It was evident last year too. Gallo has a very hard time getting through off-ball screens, he's just too big to be able to avoid the screen and stay with the man.
The other option we have would be to use the lineup we used sometimes last year after Jeffries left. Gallo guards the PG, and Felton plays the Duhon role and guards the SG. I actually think Felton does a much better job defensively against SG (ignoring post defense) than he does against PG.
Either way, if you think Gallo would have a hard time with all of those guys than Fields would for the same reason. Gallo is much faster laterally than Fields, so if Gallo is too slow to guard all of those guys than Fields is too. At least Gallo would have the length to recover from his mistakes and still be able to contest the shot.

"That's the problem right now," the point guard, who had 20 points and seven assists, said of the Anthony talk. "It's just that it's been talked about too much. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. If it's not, it's not. That's my thing. We're trying to play basketball here; we're not trying to talk about anything else going on off the court.
"These are my teammates. I'm going to fight for my teammates. I love my teammates. So when you keep hearing all this extra stuff about your teammates, yeah, it's starting to really get on my nerves."
Knicks president Donnie Walsh admitted he is concerned about his team being distracted by the Anthony talk, but he's not backing out of the trade negotiations.
"It's New York,'' he said. "They better get used to it."
Man up already Felton... didn't seem like he was bothered much tonight... more excuses..

Our flexibility was unlimited for the purpose of having it limited by a max player. This has been the goal all along.
No. Donnie set up the cap to potentially get TWO more max players with Amare, as he stated last summer, hinting at Melo in 2011, and CP3 in 2012. You don't trade for melo if you have to digest Harrington's albatross contract and lose any shot at CP3, Howard, or Deron Williams in 2012.
