we're not giving up everyone, it's a negotiation. you ask for everything and then settle somewhere.

I just dont understand what our next move would be if we lose out on Melo..Did we really trade Picks, youth, and contracts that would be gone anyway, just to wait till 2012.
and still cant keep the guys were trying to hold onto..
no, you can't hold onto everybody and get one of those guys. you're right, there is no real next move, which is why i feel that we'll end up with melo someway or another. it's too important to not happen.
I agree as well. Push comes to shove, Knicks will make a deal. I just can't see them pulling a trigger on all 4 of those guys and AR going out. There wouldn't be very many avenues of improvement from there, even for role players. -Jitpal

the way i look at it, if they really want to go with that toast plan, team is gonna have to gut anyways after melo/amare to clear as much space as possible for the FA after next year
so i dont see the team making a serious push until after that summer

there were analysts saying..."who got the better deal?" many believed Minny did.
Boston traded Jefferson, Telfair, Gomes, Ratliff and 2 1st round picks. How many of those are now impact players? One.
My point is the "gutting" the roster BS is overblown. STOP OVERRATING our players!!!!
Carmelo is not Garnett. Nor is he Lebron. He does not have the impact that those players had/have. Stop saying "The Celtics did X for Garnett and the Heat did X for Lebron, therefore the Knicks should do X for Carmelo." It's not the same.
And on a different note, I'm tired of hearing about "2 of 3, 1 of 3," etc. as if AR isn't even a piece in this. If we give up Fields and Chandler and a pick, it's not "2 of 3." It's "3 of 4."
Lastly, this isn't even about whether you would ultimately make that trade when it comes down to it. It's about whether or not people are willing to pipe down for a couple more weeks and let Donnie do his job instead of assuming everything has to happen right this second.

Build around Armare and Melo....and probably Paul or Williams will join with them the following year
Paul
Who cares
Who cares
Carmelo
Amare
Yeah, at the end of the day, the possibility of signing a third star, that would surely come with Melo, is enough of a reason to give up anyone that isn't Amare to get him here... most would be gone by then regardless.. getting Melo is too important a step in that process to give it a chance to not happen.

Right, but there is time to do that. First of all, we don't know for sure if those guys are available. LeBron, Wade and Bosh all talked about wanting to be free agents, these guys haven't. Just rumors that they want out. Second, we don't know where the new CBA will fall. It could cause you to change strategies. Third, there is still time until 2012, if the Knicks have real assets, they can be used to trade for those players or for assets on rookie contracts so we have team to surround those guys. I don't think you can let 2012 be a big influence on what you do here. You need to make sure you get Melo, then make sure you have a team around Melo and Amare and third think about how you will get better from there. -Jitpal

That pure opinion and i think most fans have alot of faith in Donnie, its just alot of fans covet these kids because the Knicks have been bad for so long so once we have a decent team people are going to catch feelings for the players which is natural. I have full faith in Donnie.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 16] - Denver wants what?! p58
and we need to stop acting like thats the team we would be left with.
Without any real assets this organization was able to pick-up.....
TD
Moz
Landry
Williams
within a years time. all assets themselves now. theres no reason to think we cant pick up more talent along the way. along with our MLE and Vets Min. They may try to lose salary on contracts, but there not going to give up players ability to have jobs.

There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.
