Re: [Camelo Thread Part 17] - Yo Melo, Whas Good Son!
How did Rautins suddenly get any trade value? Did I miss something?
We're talking about a 2nd round pick (who most of the "experts" thought would go undrafted due to lack of athleticism) who looked horrid in SL and has barely seen a minute of court time in the league. Is the idea that 2nd rounder who have never seen the court generally have good trade value, or that Rautins specifically has done something to create value, or... ?

Im not sure either, but I would have to answer "No" to all of the above....

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 17] - Yo Melo, Whas Good Son!
Raultlins has value because of his minimal salary and the assumption that he's a smart and hard working player based on what coaches and players are saying about him.
He's got little value but it's value none the less.
It seems to me that the mini aspect of this trade is in fact overstated. Brewer isn't going to Denver unless mini gets something better than Randolph and curry. Sadly mason has zero value.
To be honest our valuable pieces are, in order,
Fields
Gallo
Chandler
Felton
Mozgov
Azabukie
Curry
Raultlins
Turiaf

"Why? Because, in the Nuggets’ final analysis — the lone judgment that counts, something the majority of media, much like sense-of-entitlement- fans, consistently overlook — the Nets’ offer is far superior to the Knicks’ tag sale accumulation of “assets.”"

thats funny and he conveniently ignores the fact that the nets, first arent making that offer anymore, and second wont make it unless melo agrees to the extension. in this instance, being so close to the deadline now, they need to not only re-agree to the trade, but then convince melo to sign the extension. yeah im sure they wont be a long drawn out process at all lol. i mean if the nets are going to get back in it, it needs to be yesterday, cause its going to take a significant amount of time to convince melo nj is the right place, not a 2 hour sit down with soviet proko
i really wish he put something behind his prediction, cause he cant possibly believe it

And third, the Nets offer isn't all that great to begin with.

There is no way I would trade Randolph straight up to the Wolves for a first unless it was the final piece to get Carmelo here. If Denver wants a trade exception or Brewer instead and the Timberwolves will not assist, Randolph stays a Knick or goes elsewhere.
Remember Kahn owes a favor to DW. DW gave him Darko in exchange for a guy that the Knicks cut within five minutes. It's time to recoup that favor. Brewer is basically the same situation as Darko. The Wolves do not seem interested in retaining him and he may have value in helping the Knicks complete the trade. If Kahn doesn't return the favor, I would not trade Randolph to the Wolves at all.
As far as the trade exception, the same thing applies. If the Wolves want to use it to improve their team, go ahead and do it. If it is going to expire anyway, return the favor that the Knicks gave with Darko and trade it in a dollar neutral trade to Denver for Curry. Refuse and Randolph does not land in Minny. I'm sure the Knicks can give him away for a 2nd rounder to someone else to create cap space in the summer.

If AR is not playing, why not trade him? IF there is no lockout, I'd much rather have a draft pick than someone who will rot on the bench.
Also, Kahn does not owe a favor to Walsh...people need to stop thinking that. This is a business and in business, there are no "I owe you" moves.

The NBA is a business to these GMs and with business there are favors given and taken or a business relationship ends. It happens all the time. A late first has little to no value to us. We can buy it for $3M.

Teams do deals to benefit both teams, and NYK certainly got benefit financially. Darko was collecting DNP-CD's for NY and a sour attitude anxious to leave to Europe. He was traded for Cardinal for the follwing financial considerations:
1. The difference in salaries (after pro-rating, about $300,000)
2. "Cash considerations" listed in the deal that MIN gave to NYK to make the trade
3. Whatever extra money NYK saved from Cardinal for the buy-out.
4. An $800,000 TPE (which you waived in the summer to sign Amare.

there absolutely are "favors" and "sweetheart deals" in the NBA. minnesota and kahn don't "owe" donnie anything. but these things are real.

And note, the only thing MIN got from Darko was a try-out, and I suppose a chance to get him to agree to sign in MIN and stay in the NBA. Darko for the rest of the season didn't make MIN a contender, so they weren't paying for his production. They used cap space, not bird rights, to sign him in the summer, so they didn't have to trade - they could have just signed him. ITs not like there was going to be a bidding war for the guy.
NYK probably made a couple million dollars for giving up absolutely nothing.

Do you really think Dolan cares about $300K? Minny wanted Darko, NY had no reason to trade him to Minnesota. They did. In theory, the Knicks could have used him in an injury situation. There was zero reason to do this trade except as a professional courtesy. In business professional courtesy is reciprocated or business relationships die.
Brewer is not in Minny plans any more than Darko was in NYs...the Knicks can add Buike in exchange for whatever junk Minny doesn't want to make it a net financial positive.
I do not trade Minny Randolph unless Minny is helpful in the attempted completion of a Denver trade. If Denver shuts the door (rather than Minny), and the trade doesn't go through I'd trade him to Minny for that first. I definitely would not "reward" Minny with what they wanted for blowing up a Melo trade.
