What I take from it is that Denver is still playing games. I'm guessing they asked for more than what the rumor stated because what is listed is not "Steep" and doesn't work financially.

They also made it well known we declined their ridiculous demands to make it look like we are not 100 percent into getting Melo. They want Melo to THINK they are trying to accommodate him ...fake hustle. They also may be willing to take the risk that he will resign with them. I hope they do take that risk....

If the only way we can get Melo know is by offering multiple starters and picks and crap then it's an easy "no" for me.

P.S. I thought Billups might be good for us but I'm a little nervous Denver wants to pawn him off on us so eagerly.

Yep...definitely a possibility (Denver trying to make it seem the Kmicks dont want him). As far as Billups go? Hes looked at times like hes running on fumes tbqh. I think the tank is just about dry.

As far as the general question about why they would want to swap Felton for Billups? Because Felton is the more valuable asset. Hes generally consideref the biggest bargain as far as offseason signings go,.his contract is friendly and hes young. Billups has no place in a rebuild, has looked like a old man at times and will not only cost more this year but nect year as well. Even if they let him go (team option) itll cost them $4 million to buy that option (which comes with its own negative publicity)

Someone needs to fix the wiretap.

According to a team source, "there is a deal to be made" but the most recent machination wasn't to Walsh's liking.

The Nuggets offered Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the Knicks for Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Eddy Curry and at least one first-round pick.

That's not what the article actually says:

The Nuggets, according to a source, are asking for three starters - including Danilo Gallinari and Raymond Felton - plus Eddy Curry's expiring contract and at least one first-round pick.

I mean if it's just Felton/Gallo/AR for Billups/Melo, of course you pull the trigger. But who knows who that 3rd starter is (Mozgov or Chandler), and suddenly, we're losing too much.

Still not sure if Denver has interest in Randolph or not. Apparently the Randolph to MN deal is on hold now.

And, I'm starting to think that maybe Melo/Chandler is a better fit than Melo/Gallo. Chandler looks more versatile as a sixth man than Gallo.

Curry/Felton/Gallo/Randolph/Mason straight up for Melo and Billups works by the numbers. No additional picks. Denver gets two starters, a project, and expirings. Knicks:

Billups
Fields
Melo
Amare
The Moz

Chandler
Douglas
Turiaf
Barron?
Williams

As some other posters have said, that's a team that can make some noise in the playoffs this year. In the offseason, Donny starts to work on Tyson Chandler, and in 2012, Chris Paul. I know it's more complicated than this, but in essence I think that's the team Donny wants and one that can actually contend with Miami in a few years. Paul, Fields, Melo, Amare, T Chandler is a dream D'Antoni team.

Three starters is to steep, Gallo+Fields+Curry+AR is plenty to give up. Keep playing this out...Donnie is in a good position.

First Denver wouldn't even talk to us, now it looks like they can hear the moving trucks backing up to get Melo's stuff and they are eager to engage in conversation now. Donnie waited knowing they would come around. The fact that they are now talking makes it clear to me that they know the inevitable is coming.

I would do Gallo, Felton, Curry and Azu a 2014 1st rounder, 3 mill cash for Carmelo and Billups. I'm not adding another starter. Knicks still hold on to an important younger play in Fields, Chandler plus a Moz and Randolph (an asset we can deal). Look I like Gallinari, but he's still a young inconsistent player who up and down. We're talking about Carmelo Anthony here. Is Felton really the PG of the future for the team? He kind of is what he is at this point in his career. Billups is older, but I think he can help us for a short time while we eventually get the future Point Guard.

Billups/Douglas
Fields/Walker
Melo/Chandler
STAT/Chandler/Williams
Moz/Turiaf

The ONLY thing I believe from this report is that somebody told Isola that Denver has made an initial offer. Who that somebody is or whether he's a reliable source or whether he has any clue what was offered, we'll never know.

What we do know with 100% certainy is that the Post & Daily News have been basically 100% incorrect 100% of the time for at least two decades. With a track record like that, how can anybody believe anything written by the Post or Daily News that's attributed to an anonymous source?

I know we're all jumpy after 1600 pages of nothing, but relax. Face-to-face negotiations in LA next weekend should be where it heats up.

This is from Walsh's perspective... he doesn't want to give up Felton because he needs him for a future trade.. IE: Deron Williams, CP3..etc. and he doesn't want to give up Gallinari for the same reason as well.

Ahh now it all makes sense...

Donnie Walsh was the cause all along as to why we've been terrible for ten years even though he has only been here for less than five.

Thanks for the expert analysis!

I personally don't think the Felton for Billups swap is bad for us. Billups is 34 years old but we can let his contract expire or keep him for next year. The Gallo vs. Chandler part gets more tricky because of Chandlers' upcoming extension.

Think about this though: If Melo and Stat are already here, what are the odds of Howard,Paul or Williams deciding NOT to join the NYK if we have enough capspace?

If the Knicks have no intenions of keeping Felton and wants to make a run at Deron Williams and Chris Paul, I would have done it. With Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, that a lone would be appealing to Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Just weird Denver would want Felton, as I thought they are really looking at Ty Lawson as their PG of the future.

From a negotiator's point-of-view, the party with more leverage always allows the party with less leverage to "open the kimono" and begin negotiations.

Meaning, if it's true that Denver made the initial offer, then it's probably also true that we have more leverage. Usually it's an indication of which side has more to lose.

As I posted yesterday with my first ever post, this recent news is going exactly like I said, Denver really, really, really doesn't want to trade Melo to the knicks, so what they are going to do is continue to propose trades that the knicks will keep turning down, so it appears to Melo as the knicks aren't doing everything they can to get you. Denver appears as though they are making efforts to accomodate Melo and now puts it on the knicks. This also, including myself is frustrating, because we are not really sure what the actual proposal the nuggets have offered, it only makes knick fans angry and even angrier if the deadline passes and still no Melo, which to me is still the likely outcome. DW will then have to have a news conference and he will just say that the Nuggets weren't really realistic in trading Melo and weren't willing to work with us to get something done.

I crunched the numbers a few pages earlier. The Nuggets want to expand the deal in order to reduce payroll (and luxury tax payments). With the 125% + $100,000 rule, if they trade Melo and Billups ($30 million combined), they can save $6 million. If they only trade Melo, it's less (approx $4 million) and they also get a younger player and another future trade asset with Felton. The Nuggets want to trim payroll, get younger and acquire as many assets as they can. It's as simple as that.

Give up Moz and keep Wilson.
Up until two weeks ago (showcase?) this guy wasn't even playing and was looked at as negative value.
Wilson's bird rights and the fact that MDA actually plays him makes this a no-brainer.
Gallo, Ray, Moz, Brewer and a 1st via Minnie sounds like a good deal. Over the summer we can (sign and) trade Wilson for depth and/or size.
