In my view the key for us is to retain enough assets (in the form of prospects or picks) for the NEXT deal. Walsh knows that Amare + Melo is not enough to win a ring. He needs the PG as well (especially for MDAs system): CP3 or Deron. That's why he won't blow all his assets on Melo, especially since there is a real prospect we can just sign Melo outright in the offseason and retain all our assets.

Walsh thinks ahead. Keep in mind he spent two years making moves aimed for LeBron. I think the aim now is to build a core of CP3 (or Deron), Melo, and Amare. Walsh will maneuver patiently and only pull the trigger on a trade for Melo that fits the longterm plan.

Boy I hope that report on realgm is wrong...because if that's all Denver wanted, Donnie Walsh has lost his mojo.

About the trade proposal, it's a win-win for the Nuggets :
- if the Knicks said yes, they trim payroll, get younger, rebuild and acquire assets (they could get more assets by trading Nene later)
- if the Knicks said no (like it seems we did), they can tell Melo : "see, we tried to trade you to NY but the Knicks don't want to give up assets for you, they don't really want you...". Melo may be upset if he knows the Knicks had a chance to acquire him and the Knicks turned it down. After a few weeks (after the trade deadline, if he's not traded by then) then Melo could resent the Knicks and sign an extension with the Nuggets. Risky but pretty good strategy.

That's where you're WRONG...Billups is WAY better than Felton who is out of control at times. Plus, like Felton, he has ONE year left that should free the Knicks up to make a run for Chris Paul.

If it's after trade deadline, can't the Knicks just come out and spill the beans on actual negotiations? I know they're restricted from talking about future FA's like Melo, but what stops them from talking about past negotiations? At least to get the story straight that they did make their best efforts in getting Melo, but Denver never sat at the negotiating table with them.

So I guess we see where everyone stands on gallo v wc

If it was wc it seems most would be ok with the trade.

I'm just glad only 2 games a played before the deadline.

D'Antoni is holding up this deal as he does not want to get rid of his boy Gallinari. I guess with Wilson Chandler's recent slump they want Gallinari now, someone they said they had no interests on. I think Denver knows Landry Fields is going to be a Knick no matter what.

Raymond Felton has been better than expected for us, but Chauncey Billups is still a good player. And if the Knicks intensions are to really make a run for Chris Paul or Deron Williams at the end of next year then I am all for this trade. With a roster consisting of Amar'e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Landry Fields. Who wouldn't want to play for us? I do think Knicks get Melo bye bye Wilson Chandler at the end of the year.

Wow I'm stunned don't know what to say honestly I don't know I'm hoping they can do it by saying gallo, curry, felton, and chandler/fields without first round picks or gallo, curry, felton, walker, along with 2 first round picks which means giving up ar and maybe 2014 or 2011 and 2013 but we gotta get this done if they made an offer wow it means their interested but if melo maybe reads this he might get oilseed and say oh wait maybe their not so interested we gotta worry want he thinks.

dancing dervish wrote:Felton+Gallo+Curry+pick (through a AR trade most likely) would actually be a fair deal overall. Billups is a much better fit for SSOL due to his shooting and Melo is the second superstar. I'd personally also like to keep Chandler over Gallo because IMO Chandler is simply the better player.

Billups
Fields
Melo
Stoudemire
Mozgov

with Douglas,Chandler,Turiaf off the bench is not only a 55win team, it can also challenge Atlanta,Chicago and Orlando in the playoffs. All things considered that'd be a great accomplishment. Fields and Melo give us tremendous rebounding at the wings and Billups and Fields shoot the 3 ball well.

I like that deal. I can't believe there are people in here who won't trade for Melo because Gallo is included. That's nuts!. Even if Gallo becomes a star he will never be as good as Melo. I hope Dolan steps in and packs Gallos bags himself because Dumtony has a man crush on Gallo and Donnie is doing whatever MD tells him. I am one of the few here that would give up three starters for Melo. Why?
Because Melo is just better then stat to build around. Now having both those players on the same team thats a core. Look at what Miami is doing with three players basically. The Knicks would be in a better situation. Melo is a 20 plus every night. You can't say that about Feldton, Gallo, Fields, and Chandler.
So who would I give up.
First one is Gallo. Gallo doesn't belong in the same team as Anthony because they are both SF.
Felton for Billups. Billups is a way better shooter and we only need him for 1.5 years. After that we can go after a younger point and have billups as a back up if need be.
Turiaf is the very next one out the door.

Trading for Melo now will give us a better understanding of what we need in the off season. Also Stat and Melo will have time to Gel for next season to make a run at a title. This year would be about making the playoffs and getting out of the first round.
Melo and Stat will create nightmares for other teams. Having both those players will make Fields a very good player for us. He will get tones of app. Billups will average 17 pgs per game here because of the double that Stat and melo will draw.

Check.
STAT. 20 to 25 pG
Melo 22 to 26pg
Billups 14 to 17 PG
Chandler 14 to 17PG may higher.
Fields stays around 11.

Now Chandler can sup in for: Stat, Melo, and Fields.

Mozgov will get so many open looks its not even funny. I mean dunks. lol

I think it's a combo of wanting to keep gallo as well as wanting to keep him for a trade similar to how we are using wc...as the key to a Paul/Williams trade.

It may also be that they don't want to give up on Felton for Billups.

What I take from it is that Denver is still playing games. I'm guessing they asked for more than what the rumor stated because what is listed is not "Steep" and doesn't work financially.

They also made it well known we declined their ridiculous demands to make it look like we are not 100 percent into getting Melo. They want Melo to THINK they are trying to accommodate him ...fake hustle. They also may be willing to take the risk that he will resign with them. I hope they do take that risk....If the only way we can get Melo know is by offering multiple starters and picks and crap then it's an easy "no" for me.

P.S. I thought Billups might be good for us but I'm a little nervous Denver wants to pawn him off on us so eagerly.

If you are a Knick fan you hope they don’t take that risk. Melo is not going to take any risk with the new upcoming CBA. I say he signs that extension less than two days after the trade deadline.

I dont really like felton but the thing about trading him for billups is that i feel like its rolling the dice.. its risky because lets say we go after chris paul or deron.. its not a given that we'll get one, & what if at that time chauncey is ready to retire then we'd have to scramble and find a suitable point guard that can deliver

This. People may hate on Felton, but the benefit of having him is the flexibility he gives us. We can still chase Paul/Deron if we want, but if those are off-the-market, we have our long-term solution already at hand.

Billups on the other hand means we HAVE to find a starting PG within a year again.
