Half of me agrees with the build with what we have route, I like all of our young guys, and ideally would like to just slide Melo in the during FA while losing virtually nothing. However, as a fan who had to watch Bernard King in the 80's do it alone, then watch Ewing spend his prime years here in the 90's doing it all alone once again, I think I earned the right to be selfish in wanting two see two top 10 talents on the Knicks for once in my damn lifetime. I am one of the biggest Gallo supporters on this board from the moment he was drafted, but if we can get Melo without giving up Fields or Moz in the deal then so be it. Ideally I would like to wait until the summer, but lets be real here, we are the Knicks, in my roughly 30 years of being a fan, we are ALWAYS a day late and a dollar short. It would be just our luck for someone to either swoop in last minute or Melo get scared by the CBA and decides to re-up. I am sick of always seeing the Bulls, Lakers, Celtics, etc get all the stars and championships des[ite all of the reports about them supposedly wanting to be Knicks or close to becoming Knicks. Just this once I would like to see it get done without having to worry about any what ifs. I think I deserve it, the Knicks deserve it, and Knick fans around the world deserve it as long as we don't completely gut the team.

Ok...ok.. let me back up a bit.... this board hated Joe johnson, yet his team the Hawks, is better than melo's team right now.. I think we are overvaluing melo at this pont.. he is a fantastic scorer, that is for sure.. Star player? I see flaws in his game, he is not lebron, or even wade if you ask me, so i have a problem gutting young talent.. especially in denvers situation.

I agree he is not Wade or Lebron. But those guys are not available anymore. They are already locked. We are not giving the bank here. Again here is essentially the deal:

Melo, Billups
for
Felton, Gallo, Chandler, and AR.

To me Felton is not a deal breaker and he is not the long term solution. I like his heart, but as we have seen any PG will look good for a while in MD's system. To me, Billups > Felton for the next two seasons.

AR is irrelevant at this point.

Melo or not, I don't want to hang onto Chandler long term either. Yes, he is a pretty good player, but we will hate him when he starts making real money and does not improve his game at all. How a player his size can only go to 2.3 times to the stripe is beyond me.

It comes down to giving up Gallo. I would have loved to hold onto him. Maybe, Gallo will be much better than Melo. But that is a big if. I love his going to the line. I believe he will get his shooting stroke back. So we are really giving up a player who may be great one day. But that is a big if. His reluctance is killing me. Every night I shake my head with disbelief how he does not take over. How do you go from a dominating half to being a nobody? How do you end up taking only 5 shots against NJ? We have blamed everyone from the coach to the point guard for that, but maybe just maybe we need to start believing that Gallo is happy in his skin. Maybe he is not humble but he is just content.

that is a good post seren... and you make some great points.. But I have seen this movie before... mark my words, we will score the same amount of points, the difference will be that amare and melo will score 80% of the points, we still won't have ball movement, we still will be easy to guard when it matters most in games, and we still won't defend.. Now, dantoni becomes the next man on the hotseat, and this team still will never win a ring..

If we do the said deal (assuming Chandler is the third starter) and waive Billups next summer, we will have

Amare at 18.2
Melo at 18.6
Mozgov at 2.5
TD at 1.1
Walker at 0.9
Fields at 0.8
Billups at 3.7
Turiaf at 4.3

That is 47.6 million for 7 players (with Billups gone). We can literally go after another 10+ million player this summer.

dont forget cap holds...but they won't be too detrimental. We can also find a trading partner for Turiaf for an expiring and get his deal off the books if need be.

Future looks bright for us, either way we go.

isola said in the article that dolan "could" overrule them. that's where they're getting this. i said for a while now that dolan will make sure we get him, but i think we'll get a slightly better deal then this.

Ok let's stop with the Gallo has the potential to be better then Melo argument right now. That is a unrealistic argument and has no place in this discussion. Gallinari will never be better then Melo unless Melo is paralyzed below the waste and is forced to play the game of basketball from a wheel chair.

I feel like they'll convince Dolan to at least wait for the counter offer...

Lets not forget that Billups has played with Carmelo a long time now, So that chemistry would be key for us, It would make Melo more comfortable to my stand point. Dont you think?

I just saw him in the game against Dallas, granted it was his best game of the year, I've also seen him against us twice, against Boston and OKC

TKF I think your seriously understimating how much of a matchup nightmare Amar'e and Melo on the same court is. 95% of teams in the league will struggle with that and the Lakers and Celts of the world will be able to defend it better but will still have trouble. If you have a chance to put out that kind of a lineup you have to do it. Knicks will still have enough guys to be shooters on the outside, Felton/Billups, Douglas, williams, fields, etc. Plus Mozzy could develop into a very good player. Have faith man!!!
