Nuggets Seeking Gallinari, Felton, Starter And Picks
Feb 15, 2011 06:41 AM EST

Carmelo Anthony could have been a member of the Knicks by Monday if the Knicks were willing to meet Denver's asking price for the All-Star forward.

New York president Donnie Walsh so far is not willing to meet the trade terms Denver would require to deal Anthony to New York, which one Knicks official classified as "steep."

According to the source, "there is a deal to be made" but the most recent incarnation was not to Walsh's liking.

The Nuggets offered Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the Knicks for Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Eddy Curry, another starter and at least one first-round pick.

Frank Isola writes that the Nuggets are focusing most of their trade efforts on the Knicks and Bulls, with the Mavericks and Rockets also in the mix.

In the previous thread someone made a good point that I was going to respond to and then the thread got locked. But they were basically saying a deal would be done and that the knicks would not blow getting Melo because Dolan would step in. To me I compare it to our government and the system of checks and balances. The Knicks are currently run like that. Remember Iverson?

The problem during the Zeke years was that the executive branch had too much unchecked power...

Situation plays a big part in asking price. Itslike paying above market price for a foreclosure.how is denver going to ask for that much when THEY lost the favor of Melo. Melo isn't willing to go just anywhere either. Donnie make em look stupid! Drop them in the 11th hour

because felton and fields and others can be traded in season for deron, cp3, or dwight?

I honestly don't think Dolan is willing to let this go past the deadline and it is very possible Denver knows that and is using that to their advantage. Remember Dolan's already had meetings with their ownership. That was something we didn't really take into account before guys...

i don't see that much interest in felton. especially when we give 30+ minutes to billups and felton is demoted to backing him up. sell felton high before he goes down the toilet completely.

Checks & balances. Denver isn't going to get everything they want and neither are the Knicks.

There is no way that NY gives up all those young players and takes back a cap killing contract. If Denver wants NY to take Harrington then Gallo comes out of the deal. If Denver wants Gallo then Harrington comes out of the deal.

Denver can get either talent or cap relief. They have to choose which one they want. Walsh isn't going to give them both.

As other professional negotiators have said in this thread, the main thing is that the side are at the table, so to speak. That's the real news. The names, not so much. The parameters are coming into place and the basic framework of the deal is pretty much settled. All we're doing now is trying to find the "sweet spot' for both sides. In the end each side will give a little and the deal will get done.

Donnie needs to part with chandler, gallo, felton, curry, and the first round pick for melo and billups. Besides the fact that billups is a better shooter than felton, he also gives us a ton of cap space next year. and since donnie is supposed to be this great personnel guru,he can always replace the rest of the players. we have both draft picks this yearas well as a second round pick next year, and would have more cap space by trading for billups, there is no reason for donnie to keep messing around. GET MELO NOW DONNIE.

If we sign Carmelo to the extension BYE BYE to Chris Paul and Deron Williams. It's better to keep most of our guys cause we won't have space to sign other guys no matter how much you try to spin it.

I wish people would take off the "Melo is a star" glasses and examine his game. He is a dynamite scorer but we need to get him in a reasonable deal for this to be worth it. Again, this is the most I offer:

NY trades:

Felton
Chandler
Randolph
Bukie
Walker
Curry

NY receives:

Melo
Billups

Den trades:

Melo
Billups

Den receives:

Felton
Chandler
Bukie
Brewer
Curry
1st round pick

Minnesota trades:

Brewer
1st or 2nd rounder

Minnesota receives:

Anthony Randolph
Bill Walker
