Leafs back in the Brunnstrom race...

Post#1 » by bryant08 » Sun Apr 20, 2008 2:48 pm

After it seemed a deal was done with the Canucks, the Dave Nonis firing has changed quite a bit in the Fabian Brunnstrom race and the Leafs could ver well be in the lead:

For those who don't know Fabian, he's been compared to Alfredsson with great speed and plenty of offensive skill. He's apparently looking for a $2M deal+bonuses which is quite a lot for a 23 year old rook, but IMO this guy would be a top 15 pick in this year's draft. It's basically like buying a pick, but the other issue is he is commanding top 6 minutes next year. But we're rebuilding and could be just the right team for him to get his minutes.

To be honest, I see absolutely NO reason why the Leafs shouldn't get Brunnstrom if they actually not try to cheap skate him. Toronto can be the best place to play, and they really need to take a chance on some young talent. There really is nothing to lose here, if he doesn't turn out... then he doesn't. It's not like we gave up that much to get him. If he does, then he'll be on a team that can use him in an important role now, and we get another good young player. I'm tired of seeing guys go to other teams and tired of hearing the excuses from management when they do.

Yup, beggers can't be choosers and if he's a bust, who cares. We have plenty of time to see these guys pan out and let our youth develop.
