The offense survives through Steve Nash, not through anyone else--Really, the Suns don't NEED Carter to be a 20ppg guy or even a 15ppg guy to be successful. The improved defense gives the Suns a little breathing room there. I think Gentry's comments about VC being our leading scorer is just a motivational tactic.
What the Suns need is for Carter to play within the flow of the offense and dumping the ball to him at this stage of his career isn't a great idea.
Off topic note--Looks like Charley Rosen missed the mark on this one

"Earl Clark is a throw-in on the deal and has no idea how to play team-oriented ball.""Since Vince Carter would rather initiate his scoring opportunities from a dead stop, he’ll have some trouble adjusting to the constant movement required by the Suns' free-wheeling offense.""Mickael Pietrus is a mistake player whose misplays were extremely noticeable and costly in the Magic’s slow-down game plan. In Phoenix’s speedball offense, however, his errors will hardly be noticed. But his defensive prowess and ability to knock down open treys will prove to be valuable assets."http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/blak ... ure-123010Pietrus's mistakes are still noticable in Phoenix on offense, but he's getting better.
