If denver thinks there getting four starters there crazy and stupid that where i draw the line 4 starters are lot of players to give up. Can anybody let me know why they want felton i thought lawson was going to take over there team that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't think chauncey want to come to the knicks reason why is i don't think he cares about losing in denver he wants to be in there front office after he done playing. Also isn't arron affolo the same type of player laundry fields is why do they want 2 of the same type of player i think asking price will go down. I think the trade will be chandler, gallo, mason, curry, billy walker, and 1st round draft pick to denver.

I think Denver's top interest from the Knicks is Galo. I doubt any trade gets worked out without him included.

Denver's asking price for Carmelo Anthony is more outlandish than previously thought.
The Post has learned the Nuggets made a whopping demand one week ago that is more exorbitant than recent reports. According to a league source debriefed on Carmelo Anthony negotiations, Denver asked for Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Landry Fields, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov and a first-round pick (obtained via Anthony Randolph) for Anthony and point guard Chauncey Billups.
Yes, it looks like the Nuggets demanded everything but James Dolan's Radio City Music Hall.

The Knicks management was flabbergasted, according to the league source. They fear such a proposal meant they really didn't want to do a deal with the Knicks. Not much has changed since, though the Knicks believe the Nuggets eventually will soften on taking either Gallinari or Chandler, not both. (Eddy Curry's contract must be included for the cap numbers to work).
Meanwhile, the Nuggets and Nets have re-engaged in trade talks -- which has seemed inevitable -- throwing another wrench in the Knicks' bid.
As of now, the Knicks and Nuggets head to the All-Star break with a wide chasm, and all of New York crossing their fingers that the Knicks can snag Anthony before next Thursday's trade deadline. Denver's talks with the Nets are viewed by some as a ploy to get Knicks president Donnie Walsh to give up the farm.
"They want everything," the league source said of Denver. "The Knicks didn't even have to sit down and talk about that offer. It's not even logistically possible. They'd have two miserable stars with nothing around them."
The Nuggets feel they can package some of those players in trades for better draft picks.
With the trade deadline seven days away, the Knicks hope to continue talks with the Nuggets. If there's no Knicks deal and Anthony stays in Denver, Walsh probably will try to trade for a center (Jeff Foster, Joel Przbyilla) and wield his salary-cap space this summer for Anthony.
Last night, in a telling remark before the Knicks beat the Hawks 102-90 at the Garden to enter the All-Star Break at 28-26, Walsh said, "At the end of the trade, we have to look at it and say, 'Are we a good basketball team?,' "
Thus far, Denver has made it easy for Walsh to say no.
"Maybe they [the Nuggets] just don't want to do it," the league source said. "Didn't they do that with the Nets? When you keep asking for more until you say no, maybe you don't want to do it. Maybe they want to go to the playoffs with Anthony and call [Carmelo's] bluff on June 30th."
Another NBA executive believes the Nuggets still aren't convinced Anthony will definitely leave them and want more certainty.
The Knicks would consider the Felton-Billups element as long as there's not too many pieces involved. Billups, 34, is best in a slower offense, but his contract expires in time for the Knicks to make a run at Chris Paul in 2012.
D'Antoni likes Billups, "and it's not like they're running up and down every play," the league source said. "But he really likes Felton. It's a matter of how far they're willing to go to get that piece and where's the cut-off line."
A package of Chandler, Felton and Fields for Anthony and Billups is a scenario the Knicks "would have to sit down and discuss," the source said. That would put them in great position for Paul. But the clubs aren't at that point.
There are suggestions owner James Dolan is pressuring Walsh to give up what it takes.
But the league source said, "There's no disconnect there. Everyone there wants a good deal. Nobody wants a bad deal."
Walsh believes he can land Anthony for no compensation this summer when he's a free agent. Walsh has said repeatedly he's not worried about the new collective bargaining agreement, that if the cap number goes down, so will player's salaries -- so the reduction is proportional.
Walsh defended his club amid allegations they are just a .500 team.
"I like the team we have now," Walsh said. "I like the position we're in. What I like about the team is it's very young. It's not a team where: This is it. We are going to get better."
When asked if there's an active proposal on the table, Walsh said testily, "None of your business."

Talks are sure to continue through all-star weekend, though it's highly unlikely anything gets done before Sunday's game. Neither Walsh nor Mark Warkentien will be in Los Angeles, but assistant GM Allan Houston will and, of course, owner James Dolan will also be there for the annual Board of Governors meetings, which Nuggets executive Josh Kroenke will attend as well.
A chance to chat? Perhaps the rest of the owners, and David Stern, will look down the table at both and say, "Get this damn thing done already, will ya?"
Reports emerged on Wednesday that the Nets have had some new conversations with the Nuggets, which is something we reported in Saturday's Newsday was going to happen. Here's the thing, as we wrote in the Fix on Tuesday morning, despite suggestions that the Nets were re-emerging as a threat to the Knicks, we were told by a person with knowledge of the situation, "The Nets are out."
Anthony still prefers the Knicks when it comes to signing the extension and as long as the Knicks remain in the hunt, that should trump any efforts Denver makes in trying to play one team off the other. We also reported here in Tuesday morning's Fix that the Rockets were also out. The Mavericks had some thoughts but they aren't wasting much energy on it anymore.
In the end, the Knicks remain the only horse in the race. So what is taking so long?
Seriously, Fixers, it's amateur hour out there in Denver. The scariest thing about this deal, I was told by one source, is that it's impossible to know what the Nuggets want to make a deal happen because they don't even know what they want. That's why this thing is destined to go all the way to the deadline. Perhaps once they're pressed to make a decision, they'll be able to make one. If they keep Carmelo out of spite, knowing full well he won't sign the extension, then it could wind up being a blunder far worse than the Cavaliers' blind faith in LeBron James.

Either this is Donnie starting to use the media against Denver or a true story. If true, the ball is falling in Melo's court and put in Melo's court by Denver. This is a good scenario for the Knicks. Clearly the Knicks could not accept the deal giving away four starters for a guy that is a free agent in a couple of months. Melo and the rest of the world now know this.

Melo now has a choice to make...maximize money and resign with Denver or flat out tell Denver he will be a FA and come to the Knicks. At this point, this is the only way he has a shot at getting traded, and if it does happen, it will be an 11th hour deal to the Knicks where Denver cracks and the Knicks give up something close to the Chandler/Cap relief/picks type of deal.

When will people understand it's not about billy king, Urijijijiji or whoever it is in the Nuggets or Nets FO.

Melo going to NJ is only happening if MELO wants to go there and is willing to sign that extention with them... so far he didn't want to and showed signs of it, so there was no deal - but th second he does there will be a deal, worry not.

I don't get how people say NJ are back in it.. I thought Melo made it perfectly clear that they're not even close.

The only way Melo ends up in NJ is if he chooses to end up in NJ. If he does, it was mostly a financial decision with him basically saying I'd prefer NJ over Denver. If this is the decision he prefers to make, I wish him well wherever he ends up and happily move on without him as he doesn't have the desire to be a champion. At the deadline, with no Melo trade, Randolph ends up in Minny for a pick to clear the max space for Melo as a FA...Turiaf and Buike could easily be goners as well.

yeah and posts bitching about it and the consequent "bitching about people bitching" posts (my post) really help. not really much you can do about it seeing as it is a discussion forum and not a newsfeed. just be grateful we have an official melo thread instead of just the whole board being swept by melo threads.

News that was posted in the last thread. Ballboys talking about I dont know what. Johnny come latelys making demands. Trolls taking shots.

The media would not feed people BS is people weren't so hungry for it. I dont even know half the people posting in here. What is the malfunction?

THANK YOU!!!

I've been thinking the exact same thing. I come to this thread looking to find out the latest news. But instead, I have to roam through 10 pages of post padding, odd trade proposals, and unnecessary bs opinions just to find something relevant. I wish there was just a thread for ACTUAL NEWS. That way those of us busy at work, etc., can run in, glance at the latest developments, then go back to real life. Because 19 threads with 100 pages each of practically nothing is bordering on insanity.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but merging every thread that has the word "Melo" in it into this mega thread is an awful idea. It used to be that we could post a new thread regarding a new topic on a player that would stay open for awhile and then it would get merged into the mega thread. Why not just post Melo news articles individually and let them sit there for a little while so we don't have to tread through all this nonsense to get updates. :eyebrows:

Brilliant !!!

Ok you can be sarcastic if you want. But that's not what's being said. If you read through all the pages like I normally do, most guys say they're FED UP with the whole process. They're complaining how nothing is happening, they're reacting to every single rumor or syllable, and some are saying they can't even get school work done because they're so glued to the threads. But that's not really good or beneficial.

In reality, not much of anything factual or newsworthy has really happened in the past week. But you'd never know that from the hundreds and hundreds of pages of some, dare I say "OVERREACTING" to nothing that's causing posters to get information overload and burned out. You're correct, this is a F-O-R-U-M and a place to discuss. So nobody's saying there should be no discussion. But we can't have it both ways. If we are really tired of the maddening process and no legitimate information in us trying to land Melo, then we have to stop adding to the problem. Because right now we're only working OURSELVES up into a frenzy over nothing (yet), when it's not really necessary.

I agree with WalshWalsh: maybe one mega Melo thread is not the best idea. Allowing a new thread when there's something really relevant would probably fix all that, and at least split the information up into factual or breaking news vs. opinions and general talk.
