They are asking for every key player on our team aside from Stoudemire. Let's pretend for a second that we actually accepted that offer. We'd be left with this team:

Billups/Rautins
Douglas/Houston (move Allan Houston from assistant GM to back-up shooting guard)
Melo/Walker
Amare/Williams
Turiaf/Williams

That offer is a joke. The team we'd be left with is a joke. This whole "Melo-Drama" is a joke. This needs to end. The deadline can't come soon enough.

I still don't get how we are using our leverage if we have to give up both Gallo AND Chandler. Those two combined outweigh Melo's scoring....

Hahn insinuted that Walsh is prepared to give BOTH players up....do we get anything else back besides Melo? I'd take Harrington if we get to keep Gallo.

BOOM! I called this a week or so ago. Donnie wants to keep as many young guys as possible to use them in a trade for CP3 or D-Will next year. If we give Denver EVERYTHING, then we will have no shot at trading for them or hell, even signing them. The dream is STAT/Melo/CP3...thats what was proposed in the summer and that's what we're trying to make a reality by next year. Let's see how Donnie plays this out.

Says he is 85% sure Melo will be a Knick by the 25th still doesn't see a deal till next week when Knicks will give better offer.

Melo obviously getting his ideas from the Melo v. Bernard King threads.

Side note:
You KNOW NYK will have Bernard King as the main guy along with Amar'e on that recruitment eam IF NYK and DEN cannot come to terms on a trade by the deadline. Melo will be disappointed he didn't get that extension but I believe he will eventually come; and Bernard King will remind him that you need a "crew" around to win. Bernard didn't choose to play with an equivalent talent level of mid-tier role players and he'll let Melo know that this is a blessing in disguise. :D

Agreed. There is a point at which an offer is so outlandish that it ends the discussion. It shows they're not serious and it's a non-starter. Nowhere to go with that kind of offer.

Denver's offer reminds me of some of the low ball offers I'd make during realgm Build A Team, only difference is that people here actually entertained them...LOL

That's what I'm saying. The offer is so damn ridiculous that it's not even worth it to work off of that. They need to come back with something at least somewhat realistic and then we go from there.

It's a negotiation. We lowball em and they highball and we meet somewhere in the middle next week.

That's not even highball though. That's beyond highball. It's ridiculous.

Only highballs involved are ones that ujiri is drinking when he makes this proposal.

True BUT....IMHO CP3 doesn't want to/ or would threaten NOH to trade him to NYK or else lose him for nothing for Wilson & Gallo. Remember, Donnie said he's looking past this season to 2012 AS WELL.

Just forget it. Let's just make it to the playoffs with the team we have and enjoy what we haven't seen in a long time. Let Denver wait it out and get Clevelanded.

We will not walk away because we don't want to insult Melo. We will put up with Denver's crap until the deadline to show Melo our respect. And then after the deadline, we can go to work on slandering Denver's front office and their amateurish ways.

Knicks were flabbergasted when receiving proposal last week, feeling Nuggets didn't really want to do deal with that offer.

That is a completely ingenuous offer from that joke over there in the Rocky Mountains that they call "a franchise." Seriously, they are expecting us to give up 5 capable starters all under the age of 26 (4 players 24 and under)? That is not equal value imo. How would we even fill out the roster? We'd have 8 guys if you don't inlcude Azu who still isn't ready to play. Why don't they just ask for Amare and our 1970 championship while they're at it

In my opinion the offer is so ridiculous, because it will make giving up Chandler AND GALLO seem like a good deal for us despite our leverage. Judging from the post here that tactic is working. Hope it's not working on Walsh.

Exactly what they are doing. Its a good stratetgy. If you want a deal, start on the high side and "compromise" down to waht you really want.

As I pointed out in my first realgm post, that everything that's happening is exactly like I said, which was that Denver really really reallly doesn't want to trade Melo and especially not to the knicks, therefore as predicted they would make offer after offer that are so absured knowing the knicks won't except, which of course came out today. So now Denver is going to try to tell Melo that look we tried, but the knicks apparently don't want you bad enough. The question now becomes will Denver seriously engage the knicks as this deadline approaches. If they don't, the knicks won't budge and no trade will be made. I also think that DW doesn't want to trade Gallo, so this coud also be a little bit of a ploy for knick fans to not be so angered if we don't trade for Melo, because now DW just has to say that Denver never really made a legitimate offer

Chandler, Gallinari, Randolph, and Curry seems like the "middle" deal that's being referred to. And that would be a very good deal for Denver. Three young, promising players (two of which can help now), as well as cap relief.

I really don't think they'll pass that up in the end.

As for the Knicks, they'll keep their glue guy (Fields), and their height (Mozgoz). They'll also hold on to their existing point guard, which means less practice is needed for the Knicks.
Don't get it Twisted.

 lol sounds that way i agree and I think they make the offer half joking too, but its for a reason, they want a deal and they want value. Start out at one extreme and work your way down to being more realistic. Realistic to most of us is probably 2 of Gallo, Chandler, Fields, Felton, AR, Mozgov... For them it may be its 3. This high start is to set their expectations high. Same reason the Nets are supposedly back in the talks. Its all tactics. We'll give up some players, but nothing close to that, and Denver knows it.

+1

A month ago, the consensus here was that we would give up 1 of 3 (Chandler/Gallo/Fields). Now, after the recent rumors about the ridiculousness of Denver's offers, everyone is ready to give up 2 of 3 AND a Felton/Billups swap AND toss Moz and a 1st rounder in there while we're at it. People need to stay grounded. As you said, hopefully these tactics are not working on Donnie. They certainly are not working on me.
