Wrong, he'd also throw in the next 3 avaliable 1st round picks we are allowed to offer which takes us through 2020!!!

perhaps hoopsworld, the trusted media source that they are, is using the term free agent loosely to describe players available after the deadline.

No it would be more like this:
DFO: We want Gallo, Mozgov and Chandler.
Isiah: Ok look, I feel you, but we need a formidable front line so we are going to keep Mozgov but I'll send you Fields and an unprotected first rounder.
DFO: No we need size, we want Mozgov or no deal.
Isiah: Look, I'll add another future unprotected first rounder.
DFO: Mozgov or no deal...
Isiah: Fine. Gallo, Chandler, Fields, 2 unprotected first rounder, I'll take on Al Harrington, cash considerations and Mozgov but you need to send me Melvin Ely.
DFO: Deal. -Jitpal

Take the hoopsworld story with a grain of salt...two days (I think it was) before LeDecision, they were reporting that he was going to the Knicks. I remember this vividly because I was going nuts.
With that being said, this story does seem true.

The free agents are Barron(who we all know) and Melo's friend is Iverson.

The idea that Denver doesn’t want to appease Carmelo Anthony by giving him everything he wants is something that we’ve talked about here since the fall. Most-all of Denver’s brass including Masai Ujiri, a source says, are cool with trading him to the Knicks. But the hold up is obviously what they can get back.
Alan Hahn puts it best:
Seriously, Fixers, it’s amateur hour out there in Denver. The scariest thing about this deal, I was told by one source, is that it’s impossible to know what the Nuggets want to make a deal happen because they don’t even know what they want. That’s why this thing is destined to go all the way to the deadline. Perhaps once they’re pressed to make a decision, they’ll be able to make one. If they keep Carmelo out of spite, knowing full well he won’t sign the extension, then it could wind up being a blunder far worse than the Cavaliers’ blind faith in LeBron James.
Which is why this is going to take a while. Donnie Walsh’s patience is key here but he has to fear, seeing that he is most certainly a fan of the ex-Syracuse star, that another team may come out of nowhere and swoop him up. And to Denver’s credit, they realize it and are using the media to play chicken. For those just reading TKB for the first time, I’ve been on this story for a long time. A source with tremendous knowledge told me yesterday that the Nuggets and the Knicks are “about 65% done” with a deal meaning that the parameters have been established but the Nuggets keep coming back with more and more after conversations end forcing Walsh to leave the table. They simply, as Hahn says, have zero idea what is or isn’t a good deal. It is why they planted the Lakers rumors last week and why the Nets are now being mentioned.
The Nets discussions were brief and ended quickly, multiple sources told TKB.
This has always been about Denver pulling the trigger. Melo’s agents won’t let him go to free agency, so the idea that Walsh believes the Knicks can simply get Carmelo as a free agent, I’m told, is misguided.
So the game of chicken continues and the Knicks hope that realistic talks can and will occur before the deadline comes to a close.
Meanwhile, Carmelo dropped 38 and snagged 12 defensive rebounds in closing the Bucks 94-87 last night in Milwaukee.
Melo combined with Amar’e would be a great starting point and allow the Knicks to expect to beat lesser competition on a nightly basis, so long as they are allowed to be surrounded with role players and talent. What the Knicks hope to avoid is a situation like in Miami who will truly have a difficult time in the playoffs if Mike Miller, diagnosed with his 3rd recent concussion, isn’t on the floor in the 4th quarter to stretch the defense in the half court.
Now i don't know if they have the same source but that hoopsworld article i had posted before also said 65% done which is good news and hahn has said the parameters are set and while Donnie might not be in LA both Dolan and Allan Houstan are anyone know why Allan is there? But anyway their might definetly be a meeting scheduled that was reported by CBS and whose to say they can't just call Donnie I mean isn't what cell phones are for?

I don't know if I buy the free agent thing. I can't imagine the Knicks bringing in someone who hasn't played all year into a playoff race. At least a guy who is on a team now, maybe isn't playing. I think Jefferies is a good bet because he isn't playing and will get bought out. Rip, I bet he goes to a championship contender. Maybe the Knicks trade Azibuike for a guy or two who are currently on some teams bench. -Jitpal
