So that Berman WT about Denver wanting everything is from a source who said that's what they were looking for a week ago... in a situation where things are constantly changing, almost by the hour, that seems like a decade ago........ useful, but not really meaningful information.

This is getting worse than the Lebron fiasco! I'd pay quite a lot of money to go to sleep right now and not wake up until the 25th.

Giving up that extra pick to Houston wasn't good. I know it gave us Felton and Mozgov but the Nets and Heat cleared out capspace much easier than giving up all Donnie did. FWIW I am a Donnie Walsh guy but if we have one of those picks maybe Denver's demands aren't so outrageous because we could throw some picks in.

If what I saw this morning is really what Denver wants, then they can go to hell.

without the ability to add youth through the draft and after trading away so may assets - assuming its Felton, Chandler, Randolph and either Field or Gallo - we are looking at going from a very young team to a very old team overnight. From an uptempo running team to a slower team, more deliberate team. From a team where starters play major mins to a team that cant have starters play those mins and lacks depth.

Donnie may well be forced to reject Denvers unreasonable demands and we may have to roll the dice this summer

This was not a mistake. You yourself acknowledge it allowed us to get Felton AND Mozcubed.

Nyets offer can easily be matched by us:
Gallo > Favors
we can get a second pick by trading ... < Nyets picks will be a little better
Felton/Billups = Harris/Billups
20+mil in tax savngs <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< better than Troy Murphy's expiring.

So what if we have to trade Turiaf or TD or Walker or all of them for a pick.... it does not make what DW did a mistake... we are still in a position to beat the Nyets... it is Denver FO and Melo himself that need to get real.

Another factor in this:

Hopefully Denver knows that if they screw over Melo and try to force him to New Jersey, they can forget about ever signing another big-ticket Free Agent like Melo.

For the most part, Melo has been a very good soldier (both in signing the longer contract and being someone who did not distract the team this year) and he's done so, and been patient, with the belief that the Nuggets would try to accommodate him and send him where he wants to go.

He's never complained or bad mouthed the front office, and he's played to win.

He's not been hanging around just so that the Nuggets could try to screw him and send him to New Jersey. Everybody knows what he wants.

So if they try to force him to New Jersey, it will reflect badly on the Nuggets and word gets around. The players are a tight-knit bunch and they take note of classy franchises. They also take note of the ones that are vindictive, spiteful and try to take advantage of players in a way that hurts a player's future.

Denver could be hurting their image and their ability to attract top talent over the very long term. They should think about that. And for what? To get Derrick Freaking Favors and another poor lottery pick? LOL. Not worth it. Not by a long shot.

very smart. and one can hope this would motivate melo to overlook the knicks' refusal to give up 5 guys for 1 guy should denver refuse to trade him here before the deadline.

KG ... you make way too much sense. Did you see the vid of McMahon complaining about Kroenke?

Unfortunately, we can not count on Denver FO being so sensible. They are not smart businessmen.

And yes, your analysis is way too sensible.... Of course every player and GM in the league is watching and taking note. There will be blood.... !!!

http://espn.go.com/blog/TrueHoop/post/_/id/24935/latest-carmelo-anthony-trade-buzz

The latest tidbits to dribble onto our radar from the Carmelo Anthony trade front:

• Although details of a formally scheduled meeting have yet to emerge, Denver officials are operating under the assumption that Melo and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov will finally meet face-to-face during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, according to sources close to the process. The Nuggets encourage that meeting, sources say, because trading with New Jersey has always been more favorable to Denver than dealing with New York and because the Nuggets -- who still like New Jersey’s Derrick Favors better than any player who’s been made available to them in the months-long Melo trade saga -- know that the Nets remain unwilling to participate in a trade unless Anthony also commits to an extension in New Jersey.

• Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni and Knicks president Donnie Walsh are understandably hesitant to give up too much of New York’s depth to get Melo, as Chris Sheridan spelled out Wednesday night in this piece, but one source well acquainted with both teams’ strategies echoes the rising notion that Walsh might have no choice if Knicks owner James Dolan takes a Melo-at-all-costs stance, as many observers anticipate. The source said: “Don’t forget Donnie is still trying to get a contract extension.” Translation: Getting Melo now, no matter what the cost, might be the clincher to get that extension.

• Entering All-Star Weekend, New York and New Jersey are the only two teams seriously engaged with the Nuggets in Melo talks. Sources say that the Dallas Mavericks, long considered right there with Houston at the top of the list of teams willing to gamble on trading for Anthony without his signature on a contract extension, have been sufficiently convinced that Melo is so determined to ultimately get to New York that they’ve decided there’s no way they could include prized young guard Roddy Beaubois in a trade with Denver because keeping Anthony beyond this season will be so difficult.

• The Nuggets, sources insist, were the ones who called the Nets to resuscitate dialogue between the teams for the first time since Prokhorov publicly pulled his team out of the running on Jan. 19. Word is that Prokhorov made it a condition not to re-engage Denver unless the Nuggets made the initial call.

They're only annoying if you actually believe that they're in the running. However, I agree that it is annoying that Billy King actually slightly engaged back in talks only to try to drive up the knicks offer

because we didnt have the inside info the heat had
and lets not talk about the nets as something that we should emulate. they gutted their team and got nothing

the team that did the best in clearing cap without damaging their team was CHI, and thats easy when the league gifts you a #1 overall pick when you just miss the playoffs

Donnie did what he had to do. Difference between other teams clearing cap space and us was our contract we had to move was pure garbage (Jared Jeffries)

the Heat gave away Beasley (a lotto pick with upside) for free.
Bulls gave away Hinrich whos at least a decent PG

Jordan Hill sucks anyway, I miss the draft picks more.

Return to New York Knicks
