Re: [Camelo Thread Part 19] - Knicks Deal 65% Done?! (Pg. 28)
If Melo wants to go to NJ, I would only say good luck. We have more important needs. I would be looking forward to getting a center and a backup PG in the summer while locking Chandler to a reasonable contract. Nene, Gasol, and Chandler (Tyson) is my top three. I would settle with Dalembert on a short contract if these are not available. I would check out Yao Ming's health and Oden's availability just in case. I would check out RFAs like Spencer Hawes and DeAndre Jordan. I don't even mind going down to list for undersized guys like Carl Landry and Glen CryBaby.
Next I would look for a backup PG. Barea is FA. Billups may be waived. Earl Watson would be perfect. Telfair and Vujacic would be less than perfect. I am sure other guys will be available as well.
A real center and a backup PG, along with current core and a year of playoff experience for Gallo, Fields, and Chandler would make us contenders.

Lol.. do people really think we are a Greg Oden away and a backup PG from being something? Nene Gasol nor Chandler have any chance of getting here.
"I'm sure other guys are available as well" - nope, not at Melo's impact/magnitude.

I would love to get Melo for a fair price, but Denver wants too much. Amare/Melo/Felton or Billups plus bunch of scrubs are not winning anything.
How do you know Nene, Gasol and Chandler won't come here? Are you their agents? Why wouldn't Nene accept a good deal from us? We will have the money you know.
I guarantee you Felton/Fields/Gallo/Amare/Nene plus a solid bench have a better chance to further in the playoffs compared to Amare/Melo/Felton plus scrubs. In fact, they would have a solid chance against anyone.

how so? nene will be a fa once he opts out. why should he cost anything other than our cap space?

Last time I checked we are averaging 106 points. Gallo can easily be the second scorer so as Chandler. Our problem is interior defense and backup PG. Heck a decent backup PG would make our second unit soooo efficient.

See, this is where Denver management is straddling that "stupid" line. They are now leaving the ridiculous zone and venturing out into "feces warpaint stupid". Do they really think Melo is gonna jump on the 17-40 Nets train at this point in the season? So let me get this straight:
Melo has played his career as a Nugget and refused an extension with them to enter FA status where he'll choose to play next to the 5 rpg Center sensation, Brook Lopez on a 17 win Nets team once he comes face to face with the Russian Casanova? I get that Denver would prefer the Nets package but this sounds like the most "Wiley Coyote" train of thought I've ever heard. Do they really think that would be the outcome of the ASB?

Let me put it this way: If I had Melo and another team offered me Nene, Gallo, Fields, and Chandler for him, I am making that deal.

the other bizarre thing is they're saying the nets have lessened their package. and what denver wants from the knicks is EVERYTHING, so how exactly is a nets package that has been downgraded now going to be a better option? the net equivalent to the knick package would be something like harris, murphy, favors, and brook and picks. but the nets are now offering even less than before. its comical that they're going back to the nets one more time. everyone knew the nets would "get back into it" cause denver needs to try one more time to make it appear theyre in the driver seat.

One of the very strange outcomes of Melo folding & going to New Jersey will be that he misses the playoffs this year.
It would shine the light directly on Melo's claim to be all about winning. I'm all about winning but I'll sit out this year's playoffs and there's a very good chance I'll be irrelevant again (and in Newark) next season?
That would be very odd at least, and highly embarrassing most likely.
Melo will be 29 by the time he gets to Brooklyn. And he'll still very likely be on a very crap team. Remember that the Nets have no chance to keep Lopez and also sign CP3.

Favors looks bad.
You know, just know, that if the shoe was on the other foot ... and Favors was our pick, we'd be hearing non-stop about "lottery bust Derrick Favors" and we'd also hear about how our lottery pick in this year's draft is "worthless" because the draft is so weak. We'd hear that all the time! But with the Nets, somehow Favors continues to be this great prospect even though he hasn't even had a good game all season. One game, one flash of something, anything. Nope.

Carmelo has been to the playoffs every year in his career he won't go to a team that is not going to the playoffs this year he might well stay denver for the entire season then go to nets and not make playoffs.

And they get to pay Stromile Swift about $5M per year for the next three years. $15M for a lottery bust.
Again, there's as much or more value in the Knick deal.

YEah... this little idea of yours well get us absolutely nowhere. I would rather let Chandler walk, maintain Cap flexibility by signing a couple of one year contracts, Buy a late first and look forward to having a good draft and waiting for the 2012 free agents.

without the ability to add youth through the draft and after trading away so may assets - assuming its Felton, Chandler, Randolph and either Field or Gallo - we are looking at going from a very young team to a very old team overnight. From an uptempo running team to a slower team, more deliberate team. From a team where starters play major mins to a team that cant have starters play those mins and lacks depth.
Donnie may well be forced to reject Denvers unreasonable demands and we may have to roll the dice this summer
Nothing is impossible. Have faith. Theyll still have one (young guy), theyll have a pick and can always buy more picks (theyve managed to do very well with bottom 1st and 2nd round picks.
