Sessions or Teague?

Post#1 » by myrak433 » Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:42 pm

Jeff Teague has the potential to be a solid pg, but he needs playing time to develop. Playing time that he will never get in Atlanta. He needs to play for a bad team where he can get plenty of minutes. Where the Hawks are now, they can’t give Teague the minutes and wait on him to develop his game. We would loose to many games…… it would be beneficial for our future but not the pressent. the Hawks are not in rebuild mode. So we need to trade Teague somewhere where he can play. and in turn we need someone that is ready now. is it Sessions? I don’t know but he just dropped 30 and 8 on the lakers last night….. teague would never be able to do that right now. Sessions also average 8 ppg and 7.5 ast as a rookie with 26 minutes of play, Teague is not even ready to do that.

If we get Sessions as our starting point Bibby can come off the bench, we then can trade Teague for some front court help maybe revisit that Jason Thompson trade. we would be a better team with more debth and a better starting five.

Sessions/Bibby
JJ/JC1
Smoove/Marvin/Wilkens
Horford/Powell
Thompson/ZaZa/Twin

Hell instead of only being one deep on the bench we are now three deep.

Looks like we can get sessions for a 2nd round pick and JC2. I say pull the trigger.

Sessions is probably a low risk, non flashy, smart move. His shooting does worry me a bit though, we've already got a starting point guard with an exposable weakness.

I know Teague has been given (limited, sporadic) chances to prove himself, but I just keep wanting to give him another shot. When he's aggressive, he's exciting to watch and he has some great intangibles. His confidence and probably his outside shot seem to be the biggest factors.

He just reminds me of a Russel Westbrook type of player, whereas Sessions reminds me more of an Antonio Daniels type.

Sessions is better now and could help, but while Teague is on the team I'll be rooting for him and I would love for him to turn the corner.

I'm all for Sessions or Brooks although acquiring either may be a dream. I wanted Jeff Teague to have a breakthrough this year because of his quickness but it didn't happen. What makes me reluctant to keep waiting is the realization that he wasn't a PG in college either, so in essence I've never seen Teague be effective at the point at any level. That's a lot of change to overcome and at least right now his confidence appears shaken.

Strangely I'm not that concerned with Bibby's minutes at PG although it is hard to imagine him maintaining his level of play (high right now) all year. The minutes that concern me are Jamal Crawford's. I think he's spending too much time at PG and it is affecting both the team and his effectiveness. He needs more minutes in the game at the 2 guard being a finisher not a facilitator. Also it would be good to limit his minutes from a defensive point of view. Neither Sessions nor Brooks is a stud defender, but it isn't hard to move better laterally than Bibby or stay with your man better than Jamal.

I said the Hawks should have signed Sessions when he was a free agent.

Sessions can't shoot and he's played on terrible teams for the most part....but his PER in the games he's started for his career is in the 18-19 range and he's 24. I'd be interested to see what would happen if the Hawks got him and just gave him 35 minutes a game.

Sessions per game stats for the month of February:
35.5 min 19.6 pts, 8.9 assists, 3.8 rebs, 2 stls, 2.5 TOs, 7.6 FTA, 58.6% FG%

He can't shoot from long range but he knows it. He's not a great defender, but he is active as evidence by the 2 steals per game. Ramon's getting to the line over 7 times a game and making close to 7 a game from the line. In February, Joe has gotten the line less than 2 times a game and Jamal has gotten there 2.4 a game, Al clock in with 1 per game, Bibby is around .5 a game. Josh is 4 per game and Marvin is #2 with 2.7 attempts per game.

That in itself is enough reason to make a move. He brings something to the table that the team lacks and when the jump shots aren't falling we really need that extra element.

I think we've waited enough. It's timeto trade Teague/Zaza and Marvin for someone who can actually play. Throw Smith in that group if we can get D. Harris or Nash. This team is going to get swept by the Magic again if we keep the same group.

I still think the hole created by trading Smith (during the season) is greater than what you get back. The rest I'm all for. Marvin and Zaza might be good candidates to shake up a core that is showing signs of stagnation.
