People here speak with such authority making big assumptions as if they have knowledge or insight into what is going on, what people involved really think, feel or value and what Melo is willing to settle for. It is getting pathetic reading all the back seat drivers who think they know what another person wants.
We don't know who Melo really is as a human being and we won't know much more until we see what his role is in this drama boils down to. In the end, the Nuggets can only pull off a deal with Melo's final input. No team is going to take on Melo blind without some assurances about his intentions. And it was destined to go down to the wire anyway. That's the nature of the beast.
I said a little while back that until Melo proves otherwise, the only safe assumption is he is driven by money first and everything else is secondary. That's what drives most people in this situation. Since talk is cheap, and anyone can say they want to play in NY, we won't know if that was a legit stand he is taking or just hopeful mumblings that he won't go to the wall to defend.
But we don't know until we know. Claiming to know what Melo will accept is a fool's game and there are a lot of fools out there, primarily in the media (with a few here).
Really? If you were a top 10 player who played his college ball at Ohio State, would you play for the Cavs right now for $65mil? I'm not talking about Clyde_Style the RealGM poster, I'm talking Clyde_Style, top 10 SF, currently most coveted FA who's always made the playoffs currently opting out of the same $$, and happens to be playing for an already playoff positioned team?
That you know exactly what motivates ANYBODY who would be in Melo's position and that you, I and him would all handle the same situation exactly the same?
That's EXACTLY what I was saying is something you do not have the ability to say with any such certainty.
Help me out here, because what is your point really?
You're right. But what we can also agree on is that NONE of us are top 10 players in the NBA and you can't even act like that doesn't matter at all. Sure $$$ plays a role. environment plays a role. But winning also absolutely has to play a role otherwise they wouldn't be competitive and they certainly wouldn't be at the top of their game. Even LeBron proved it. Bosh didn't go to Houston and he could have gotten MAX there. Wade didn't go back to CHI and he could have gotten MAX and contended there, but he knew his chances were increased exponentially with LeBron and Bosh. It's career suicide to play for a $hitty team for the $$$ but you guys like to think maybe Melo would do it because YOU might. I'm saying NO WAY!!!
