"The Nets met with Melo today and put on a stunning Powerpoint presentation, replete with professional graphics, a Video presentation featuring Jay Z and Beyonce, Fireworks and juggling midgets. Melo was said to be 'very impressed' with the professionalism of the organization."

"According to a "League Source, circa somewhere NJ", the Knicks presentation consisted of James Dolan in a stained white T Shirt and Jeans reading off flash cards, while an unnamed "consultant" whispered advice in his ear. Donnie Walsh could not attend the meeting, but was contacted via Skype, after Dolan, "the consultant" and a Knick's tech support representative fiddled with the wireless settings on Dolan's laptop. Walsh apparently was startled out of a nap and fell out of his wheelchair, where he had to be placed back in by two attendants, muttering about how he 'Won't trade Reggie Miller, the price is too high'. A representative from the Knick's suspiciously would not return my phone call to confirm or deny this report."

so much of the whole report seems like BS. Capologists on here, any reason why Denver wouldn't want Murphy's deal? Is it THIS years cap hit? Cause he expires after this year and his salary is more than 50% paid.

Something I'm not understanding here, help me out. Why would Denver grant NY the meeting with Melo. If they are truly trying to steer Melo towards NJ why wouldn't they give NJ the meeting and not the Knicks. Last thing one would think they need is Melo to be reassured that the Knicks is the right place to be.

I don't get it, the only explanation I have is that they are using the Nets.

I'd say it's pretty simple:

Melo to NJ means it's all about the money, and that's what they will try to sell him

Melo to NY means brightlights, better chance at winning but uncertainty of getting 65 milion

So it comes down to money or winning, and Melo is going to have to decide what's right for him. Whether it's the right or wrong decision, people have to understand that 20 million is 20 million dollars and that's a lot of money to risk losing

Hopefully Dolan will be telling Melo in the meeting how he plans to make him a rich man, via marketing and promotional deals, should he sign with us as a FA.

I know the reason why Dolan wants to meet with Melo. He will request that once traded to the Knicks Melo will say in the press conference he picked the Knicks (and not the Nets) because of Isiah, how he admired him as a player and how great was Isiah as a General Manager, etc.". If Melo agrees to say that then Jimmy Dolan will give up the farm for him. Then it's party time and popcorn for all.

Strategically you are right, doesn't make sense. Only thing I can think is that Denver is going to script Melo into telling Knicks he will go to Nyets if they do not act.

But maybe the Knicks insisted on meeting with him and said they will pull out if only Nets are given access OR Melo's agents said, We will only meet with Nets if you let us meet with the Knicks too.

Maybe Carmelo told Denver that he would refuse to hear a pitch from New Jersey unless he also had the opportunity to meet personally with New York.

I know it's been fun to assume that Carmelo wants the Knicks and only the Knicks, but it's far more likely that he still has questions, reservations, doubts, etc. that he'd like to have addressed before making what amounts to the most important decision of his career.

If Melo goes to Jersey, what happens to the Knicks.

Im honestly scared of the brash decision making Dolan will make if we lose out on Melo.

That would mean in Dolan's eye that Walsh was only able to go 1/5 on his big free agent targets (Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Melo, Joe Johnson)

The embarrassment of the Nets beating us to Melo will be too much to handle. I'd honestly cry.

What's the Knicks next move?
