If Carmelo is serious about winning he'll say no. Judging by this year... that wont be the factor either way.

Personally, I don't feel like this deal puts the Nets in any kind of realistic contention over the next few years. #1 they won't have any draft picks to pick up young talent to put around Melo anymore, #2 They still won't be good enough to contend with the upper echelon of teams in the East which therefore eliminates them from even reaching the 2nd round of the playoffs.
6-8 in the East is always a crapshoot. Will they be better than Indy, Philly, Charlotte, Milwaukee next year? Maybe, maybe not.
They could be a lottery team, but the'll have a pick from 10-14, almost no chance for Den to win the lottery.

Make up 8.5 games on the Pacers? I doubt it.
I think that's a solid team going forward (like next year) and it has cap space (amazingly) in 2012 when Williams/Paul/Howard are FA and the team is moving into Brooklyn.
But I think this means NY might go for broke with this.
If CA agrees he pretty much saying he is willing to give up on the season for money and Brooklyn.

If Melo is serious about winning this competition would not be between the Nets and Knicks.

Correct. If I had to rank his priorities they would be..
1. Max extension
2. New York
3. Find a good headband guy in new city
4. Find a good spandex sleeve guy in new city
5. Tacos
6. Winning

He has the best chance at winning by staying in Denver, imo. The management of NY and NJ has shown a lot more ineptitude than Denver's management.

They uld have cap room to sign Paul or Williams or even D12.
You dont think Melo can persuade Paul who he is already good friends with to go there with him? Even if they wanna sign D12, you dont think they can ship Lopez for other Talent?
They have freakin Jay-z as part owner.

And sure enough, GARPAX will get yelled at by some fans.
Unless the Bulls start tanking, anybody arguing that we should have gotten Melo will be shot on sight.

I actually don't mind if the sign CP3 or DWill. But if they sign D12, it'd be scary. He makes a bad defensive team look good. Without him, they still have no anchor defensively.

I think the question to Anthony is:
Are you willing to give up on this season to get your 3 year $65 million extension?

If this does go through I 'm really curious to see what Den. does next. Full rebuild or what? It looks like the follow up deal is where Affalo or Smith would maybe shake free.

i agree. It's really not a bad thing for the Nyets. Losing all those those picks are tough, but the players are not draws for their Brooklyn project, like Melo. And even the picks are not even theirs.. the Lakers pick will be very low, the Houston pick a mid rounder, the GS pick could be way in the future. Only the actual NJ pick is a good chance to land a real game changer.
That proposed lineup is exponentially better than what they have now looking ahead to next year. If a lockout happens, Billups is unguaranteed next year anyway and is expiring $14+ million to go get a PG. Sheldon Williams is on a vet min and clears another mil next year.
For the Nugz, it's great cause they can reload. Murphy expiring 12 mil... Favors is on a rook contract for three more years. I think Karl might be able to get more out of Harris with his system than NJ was. Uzoh is a RFA who they can let go if the price is not right... They build around Harris, Afflalo, Favors and a ton of money to spend. Maybe they re-sign Nene?
And the Knicks... they are really probably better off than if they try to beat that offer to get him now. It would be funny either way. They lose their great hope of getting Melo. Or they pay WAY too much.
It's good to be a Bulls fan and out of this mess.

Just a side note, I find it interesting that the Nets feel so safe with Brook Lopez still there. I understand that centers are hard to come by...but the guy doesn't rebound or do dirty work.
That team constructed that way (Billups, Morrow, Melo, Humphries, Lopez) isn't going to work defensively that well. Or at all.
Though the same issue with the Knicks. Billups, Fields, Melo, Amar'e, Mozgof?
Just kind of short sighted thinking.

But they would be better than they were previously, right?
Has Carmelo said he's just about winning? Like Ben Gordon did?
This thing of saying guys "aren't serious about winning" if they don't come to our team is a little off putting. I remember the SF Giants signed some guys that were, obviously, not serious about winning.
Nets and Knicks are both going to spend. A lot. That gives them a huge advantage. Melo wanting to go now to Cleveland, yes, maybe then he's not concerned about winning.
