Man, I'd pay money to watch that meeting between Melo and the Nyets.

I hope they still have their LBJ material like charts and video's.

Anybody agree or disagree?

Melo probably agreed to meet with NJ on the condition that he be allowed to meet with the KNICKS as well. Makes sense being those are really the only 2 teams in the race.

The way I see it is Melo meets with NY first. Dolan, Allan Houston and Scott O'Neil talk to him specifically about players they want to keep and players they're willing to trade. They also get a feel from him on if they need to sweeten the Nuggs offer or just wait it out for FA (if Melo will go for it). They can leave that meeting knowing EXACTLY where they stand, EXACTLY what Melo is thinking, and EXACTLY what their next move should be.

Melo can then go meet with NJ out of respect and in the interest of "protecting" his image. He can hear their entire sales pitch, then politely tell them "THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!" at the end.

KNICKS and Nuggs can then get to work in earnest on a doable deal, which could be completed by Monday. Since Monday is a fed holiday and the league office is closed, by Tuesday the league could get the deal to certify and this would all be over.

Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: As Michael Wilborn just said on ESPN, why would Melo agree to a deal with a depleted Nets team, that's willing to trade away most of the team, trade away 4 picks, and can't really compete for the next several years with just Melo and Brook Lopez?? Interesting food for thought...

Kevin Clark says neither Favors or Fields have heard about any trade. Favors would be part of a Nets deal. Fields may or may not be part of a Knicks deal. If there was a deal agreed to, you figure Favors would know. FWIW. -Jitpal

The Daily News has learned that both Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov are scheduled to meet with Carmelo Anthony this weekend in Los Angeles, which is seen as the final step before the Denver Nuggets trade their franchise player.

According to a source, Anthony's representatives are responsible for setting up individual meetings with the owners of the metropolitan area's two basketball clubs.

It is an arrangement similar to one that CAA, the firm that represents both Anthony and LeBron James, came up with in July when six teams were granted an audience in Cleveland with James, who was the league's most sought-after free agent last summer.

Dolan, Prokhorov and Anthony will all be in Los Angeles Friday, the first official day of All-Star Weekend. Dolan is attending the technology summit and will also be in attendance with Prokhorov for the Board of Governors meetings in downtown L.A. The clandestine meetings with Anthony will likely take place either Friday or Saturday.

Nets last left a lot to be desired. This year they are worse. They have a center who's softer than Channing Frye and a young declining PG. Besides that they have a bunch of SF who don't do much more than workout to stay fit to be in somebody elses poster.

I was just watching the Hawks game again and this team, when on, can be very good, as we all seen early in the season. Let's say Melo goes to NJ anyway...

These Knicks won 8 straight and like 13 out of 14 or something like that. They are VERY capable of pulling a similar stretch of winning basketball...With the deadline over, our guys will be back to playing ball without any distractions.

Also, how many teams in the L have swingmen that can go for 20 on any given night, ALONG with the 2nd leading scorer in the League. Cmon now. WIN WIN for the Knicks.

Next year, the whole squad will have a year under their belt, and if need be, they're trading value will rise if there's a trade to be made. The Knicks will be fine. This is our best season in years let's soak in this ****.

I'm starting to get the gut feeling that a Knicks/Nuggets deal is agreed to or at least at the point where both sides are confident it will get done. Isola says Knicks have a meeting, no one denied that. A few people said Nets have a meeting, that's been denied. A few people said the Knicks have a framework in place or it's 65% done, no one has denied that. Al Innaozone(sp?) said the Nets have a deal done, that's been denied. Favors knows nothing about a supposedly agreed upon deal. Just my gut, but I think the Knicks/Nuggets deal is a lot closer to being done than people realize. I wouldn't be surprised if it's done today. -Jitpal
