Don't read anything into what Melo is saying... he is trying (and not doing a good job) or answering questions without really answering them.

Carmelo Unlikely To Sign Off On Nets Deal As Long As Knicks Are In Race
Feb 18, 2011 15:20 PM EST

A person involved in the Carmelo Anthony trade saga told Alan Hahn of Newsday that there is still skepticism that the forward will sign off on a deal with the Nets as long as the Knicks are still in the game before the Feb. 24 trade deadline.

The Nets and Nuggets have reached an agreement on a trade that will land Carmelo Anthony in a nine-player deal, according to The Bergen Record. The swap is contingent on Anthony agreeing to a three-year, $65 million extension with New Jersey.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Newsday that Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and hip hop star Jay-Z, who owns a minor stake in the team, are looking to meet with Anthony today in Los Angeles to sell him on making the commitment to the Nets.

Another source said the Knicks will not bow out without making at least one more attempt at acquiring Anthony before the trade deadline.

Putiger right now the Nets if they don't pick up any qualifying offers or team options they would be on the books for roughly 17 mil. If maxes go down and the cap stays the same or if a hard cap is put into place but raised a little it would be rather easy to sign CP3 if they want or they move a package centered around Lopez.

Are you telling me they can't afford 2 maxes?

I honestly cant wait for all this to be over. All carmelo needs to do is come out and say he will only extend with NY, yet he refuses to because he wants to save face with his current team.

Translation: For the Knicks to get Melo we have to give up the farm.

I say no. Melo. Let's go after Tyson Chandler this summer.
Play time is over.

they can afford 2 maxes but it would involve stripping their roster bare and I don't think many vets are going to the New Jersey Nets to ring chase

TBH, I don't think that deal beats the Nets offer.

See this is what makes no sense to me. "In the race" WTF does that even mean. Its obvious we have a standing offer to Denver and they want more. So does Melo mean that we have to up our offer and capitulate to Denvers outlandish demands? If so, forget him.

This is obvious now its about his extension and its always been. Now this has turned into a blinking contest between Melo and Denver and we're caught in the middle.
Trust but verify.

seriously?

u know pringles doesnt wanna lose his pet Gallo.

Wow...I'm assuming it's because of all the other players that would be involved. Otherwise, what can Gallo do that Melo can't?
