So, it's either they have to gut their entire team to land Carmelo, or watch him go across the way to New Jersey. Either way, they're going to look like crap when all is said and done.

I'm still hesitant to believe the Bucher report though. If Carmelo wants to be a Knick as bad as everyone says, I don't see how he would let this information leak out. It completely eliminates his chances of being dealt there.

Carmelo wants to sign an extension - I think everyone knows that. This might a source interpreting Carmelo's desires into "he'll sign an extension if no other options".

I guess I'm just not as sold as everyone else is about him willing to sign an extension with the Nets. But, you're probably right.

Melo says he's hopeful but not confident his situation will be worked out this weekend. No NY or NJ meeting RIGHT now. Says no preference

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

Thanks.

As someone pointed out, trading multiple #1's for non all-stars historically is a pretty bad move.

But am I the only one who would be tempted to offer this year's #1 and the Charlotte pick (and JJ and/or Scal and/or The Boganator) for Afflalo?

For Affalo is what I forgot to add :D

People need to give up the Afflalo dream. We'll only be able to offer him the MLE which will get matched, at which point, we might be able to trade for him but probably not. Teams don't give up young, good, reasonably priced players unless they demand out.

You’re probably not the only one… But I wouldn’t. He’s a fine player, but he’s not worthy of all the discussion he gets on this board.

Normally I would agree with you, but it is possible in my opinion they will also trade Nene and might want to stockpile draft picks. Charlotte pick has more value for a rebuilding team, sort of, than the Bulls, who won't need a 'starter' from that draft, as it stands now.

This is going to be huge for Afflalo, he will be able to take a crapton more shots, and if he shows he can score substantially more without losing much efficiency, he could get a waaaaaaaay bigger contract than he would have with Melo around.

I haven't read the whole thread, but this development seems great for us. First of all, it appears that, for Carmelo, the big extension is more important than winning, because the net effect of this is that whatever team he goes to is going to be stripped of a lot of assets. Second, NY cannot let him go to NJ. The Knicks are going to have to pony up big time. Third, this may mean that Fields will go to Denver. If so, then maybe, just maybe, the Bulls might be able to pry loose Afflalo or Fields from the Nuggets. Unfortunately, the available Nuggets SG might be JR Smith. If so, I say no. I am not interested in him.

"No preference." Now there's a guy who is all about winning.

Correct. If I had to rank his priorities they would be..

1. Max extension
2. New York
3. Find a good headband guy in new city
4. Find a good spandex sleeve guy in new city
5. Tacos
6. Winning

I read Carmelo's demeanor in all of this as, "I want to go to NY - but I want to sign an extension more than my desire is to go to a particular place".

I think he'll sign wherever he is traded to.

Okay then no reason to argue, we agree they go from sucking to a playoff team. Not really a trivial jump, and that's with giving up a fair amount of assets.

Nuggets and Knicks to have a conference call. Present will be Dolan & Walsh (Knicks) and Kroenke & Ujiri (Nuggets). The hold-up is Knicks reluctance to give up Gallinari (Pringles probably to obsessed with him). Sounds like Anthony something happens with NY before he meets Prokhorov and Jay-Z, because once that happens it's game over.

Why wouldn't they include Gallo? It would be like refusing to trade Deng if he was still on his rookie year. They play the same position. Gallo would get like 20 minutes and most of it would be playing out of position. Silly if that prevents them from getting Melo.
