We do seem like the minority, but I'm with you. This just doesn't sound like the Nets are a legit contender otherwise Denver'd be focusing on making a deal happen with them since apparently Favors is the best player they've been offered for Melo and the Nets don't mind giving up every other asset they have.

55 pages and still... I just can't wait to put this Melodrama in the Rear View. Who agrees?

You know what else the Knicks have that the Nets don't?

Well I'm knocking on wood but this conference call with Denver is a promising sign and a good opportunity.

James Dolan pulled a fast one on Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov by arranging a meeting with Carmelo Anthony late Thursday in Los Angeles, The Daily News has learned.

Although the Nets and Nuggets have agreed on players that would be included in a proposed blockbuster trade, the Knicks and Nuggets are scheduled to hold a high-level conference call Friday afternoon, according to a Knicks official.

The four main players on the conference call will be Dolan, the Chairman of Madison Square Garden, as well as Knicks president Donnie Walsh. Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke and Nuggets general manager, Masai Ujiri, will also be on the call.

The call indicates that the Knicks are definitely alive in their bid to acquire Anthony and that a deal can be made if both sides can agree on which players to include in the trade.

The holdup is the Knicks' reluctance to include Danilo Gallinari in the deal. The Nuggets want three starters, including Raymond Felton, a No. 1 pick and Eddy Curry's expiring contract.

The Knicks would get Anthony, Chauncey Billups plus other players to make the deal work under the salary cap guidelines, including Anthony Carter.

Anthony said today that he isn't aware of a meeting with Prokhorov. In all likelihood, Anthony is hoping that the Knicks and Nuggets can agree on a deal before he meets with Nets officials, including Prokhorov, the team owner, as well as minority owner Jay-Z.

Yeah, let's trade Amare too. I mean, this is <SAS Voice>CARMELO ANTHONY!!!</SAS Voice> He's a top 10 player, and Amare is barely top 20. 20 to 10, while trading the rest of the team is a GREAT deal. -Jitpal

Would you drive Felton, Fields, and/or Mozgov as well? I understand people's urgency and desire to get this done and it seems as though we could if we gave up enough assets but, as Jerry West said, Donnie seems to be negotiating from a position of power. You didn't see the Lakers give up Bynum and/or Odom for Gasol did you and see how that turned out? Lakers got a steal of a deal and got to keep other players that were critical in winning multiple titles. It's about making a deal while giving up the least amount to get the deal done. I really wish I could negotiate deals with some of you in real life--it would be ridiculously easy to get you to jump on deals where you give up more than you had to.

You must not like many people (like myself) because society has become more and more flaky (wishy-washy).

But tell me how you really fell about Melo as a player because I've read you write before you weren't a fan-boy.

As a player, I think he adds nothing of real value outside of scoring and rebounding. I think his passing is overstated by some as well as his defense, which I only find to be slightly above average when he's trying. I can see us recovering from missing out on him.

At the same time though, the man can score better than anyone in the league. Adding him would give us an incredible dimension, and would cure all those scoring lulls that have done us in this season. His time on the Olympic team playing in SSOL gives me hope about his play here, and how maybe he is capable of scoring more in rhythm instead of off isos.

I would love to get him at the right price, but don't see him as a "get him and it all falls into place" type player.

so its his fault the other team couldnt put up the package?

people should be thanking him for giving NY a chance, the same chance lebron, wade, bosh, etc never gave

If he was really wanting to give NY a chance, he would shut up, play out the season and then sign in the summer. He doesn't have to stones to do it because he's scared he's going to lose his money. That's fine. Some players just don't have what it takes to play in NY. We will find out in the next few days if he has the stones for NY or not. -Jitpal

again, these are just cheap shots directed at the wrong person, its not his fault ny isnt putting together the necessary package

melo exceeded in playing at SYR, hit gamewinner in POs, etc, he can handle the pressure

again, name me one star player in the last decade who gave NY 7 months to get him?

Again with the 7 month lies?

So for the record, you're saying Gallo, Chandler, Felton is better for the future of this franchise than Melo?

GD this thread moves fast. Mods need to have a separate sticky just for news updates. It was only at page 28 when I checked 2 hours ago.

That's not even close.

Best Case: Melo stays in Denver. Signs with Knicks in the summer.
Good Case: Chandler/Curry/1st.
Bad Case but Acceptable: Melo is a net.
Unacceptable Case: Trade everyone not named Amare for Melo. -Jitpal

You're bad case is worse than your worst case scenario since we'd be stuck with melo and Amar'e taking up 70% of our cap, leaving us with no assets to try and get a third star or any quality depth dooming us to perennial second round knockout until Amar'e's knee blows up, Melo forces a trade out and we finally have to rebuild.

I think the real possibility here is Melo/Billups for Felton/Gallo/Chandler/AR and any crap that makes it work. I'd do it.

Although if D' is clinging to Gallo's leg like a Van Gundy and doesn't want to part with him I say we include D' in the trade, too.....
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.
