Also, it pains me an awful lot to see three players go that clearly had the NYK in their heart.

Thats the thing, they took SO much pride, if this goes through.. im going to miss them for their passion and will to win and be apart of something we havent seen in a while

I'm glad some people will be rooted out by this.

Mediocre? Books are not closed on any of these players - but what you see with MegloMelo is what you're gonna get. Dude's a low IQ player who doesn't make his teammates better - but is being confused with a franchise talent by an owner who still listens to the architect of the Marbury and Curry trades. Lebron's gonna make him look sad in the playoffs, even though Anthony will be making more money.

Did you happen to miss Melo being drafted to lottery Denver team and COMPLETELY changing that whole franchise around?

I have no idea how this is a bad deal.

We would still have flexibility and don't forget Billups is no slouch. Fields, Douglas, and Mosgov would still be here and the only real loss would be Gallo since Chandler would be a goner anyway. People keep forgetting we'd be acquiring Carmelo Anthony, probably the best scorer in the game.

prove it.

because we dont after this trade.

Did we have flexibility before?

We had a bunch of guys playing the same position. We're not re-signing Chandler anyway, Felton was always going to be a stop-gap, so essentially we're giving up Gallo and Ray for Chauncey and Melo.

Our starting lineup is stronger with this deal. How is that disputable?

Losing Felton would hurt my soul a bit, but I'm sure seeing Melo in orange and blue would heal my wounds rather fast.

Those two plus cap holds and picks will be around 47.5 Million. Barring a miracle we will not have enough cap space for a max. Good luck building a team around two highly flawed players taking up 2/3s of the cap space. Talent wise it is a slight improvement. Salary and future growth it is a big regression.

Long term this is going to be considered a fleecing.

Long term? What does that mean?

When in 5 years we look back at a Knicks team that never made it past the second round, while Denver got a jump start on a rebuild and Melo is on his last legs while Gallo, Chandler, and AR are in their prime. Don't forget we are giving up Randolph as well. You put these players in the right environment and they all have all star potential.

Melo is so happy. Damn he is definitely a Knick.

Ok I'll bite...

For arguments sake, let's say the cap figure remains similar (we can't say it will or won't so I'll say it stays largely the same). For the future, the only two guys with long term deals are A'mare and Melo. Billups expires next year. Mozgov is cheap, as is Douglas. Fields makes under a million next year. The rest of the team is dirt cheap. If we take back Melo and no long term deals, our cap figure remains virtually the same since the salaries have to match. How do we not have flexibility? Having flexibility doesn't just mean assets, it means cap space and a manageable salary structure. Don't forget after 2012 we actually have all of our picks.

What I don't understand is, with asset flexibility, don't you use that to get guys like Melo? What is the alternative? Who in the next few years is available FOR SURE that's better than Melo? D Ho, Paul, Williams...that is all speculation and uncertainty whereas Melo is for sure available now. We'd have A'mare, Melo, young talent and a great cap figure...this isn't flexibility??

We shot our load for Marbury with a headband - when there are potentially three franchise / near-franchise talents on the horizon next season.

^Wow, you have me beat by 2 or 3 years TKF. I started in 1983.

This trade could still be killed. Denver's pattern is to move the goal posts.

On one thing said above by another poster, Stoudemire is not an elite post player really. He's a face up player and slasher.

you know, this is one of those trades that sucks for the first 2 weeks because we just gave away our kids for adoption.

but eventually the pain will subside and melo will find a way to win us over and help us forget about gallo, felton, and chandler.

don't shortchange melo. He aint 32. he is 26.

tkf.

be careful. i think dolan's meeting with melo foreshadowed much of this. We dont know if there was an ultimatum. We dont know if cp3 is waiting in the wings. Hell, DENVER MIGHT JUST REJECT THIS OFFER.

I love gallo, you know i do, but Melo playing next to an elite post player is scary.

The fact that dolan is meeting with melo just confirms that we are going to get hosed in this deal.... You can count on that man to screw up walsh's work..
